    E-Boy Gómez's father passing away within the last week could have any number of effects on the outcome here - anything from a "Tokyo Douglas" moment where he performs above himself and becomes the first to knock out the notoriously teak-tough Japanese fighter ...to his emotional state could leave him susceptible to a violent upset.

    Gómez is looking sharp, forcing the bigger Sakai onto the backfoot with a stiff up-jab from the left hip and working combos off it. Sakai tries lowering a drawbridge jab while creating space, but his location is a bit off. Gómez is batting Sakai's arm down and to one side like a lever with a hook and then popping a right into the chest. Sakai boxes tall, cautious, getting outworked but not really touched up too badly from medium-long range despite Gómez working flashy combos regularly off the jab, up on his toes.

    I'm calling BS on that Sakai is the only Japanese person who lives in Mexico. In fact, he's the only Japanese person to have ever lived in Mexico.

    Jake Shields was violently KO'd by Jake Ellenburger in a fairly big upset after his old man died. Was always in his corner during his fights. Might not have made a difference as Ellenburger all things considered was a terrible matchup for him and at the height of his own reign of terror at Welterweight.
