Maybe the greatest pure technician at the plate since Teddy Ballgame, and yes I realize that's no faint praise.

Hell of an all-around position player, too.

Gómez is starting to incorporate some body shots, diving in beneath Sakai's jabs. Sakai manages to scrub Gómez's temples on either side with the reach-in jab, but is mostly keeping his right hand sheathed, throwing his jabs from too far out, not hooking off them, and barely trying anything downstairs. Huge edge in both volume unloaded and percentage getting through for Gómez. Sakai coming forward, staring through his peekaboo and picking off shots, crowding Gómez but doing little else.

Round 8

Gómez is pulping up the jab of Sakai with his jab and is jumping in with double uppercut combos on the abdomen, pushing off when done to reappear on the outside safely outside Sakai's jabbing range. Gómez is boxing tidily with pretty much as much sharpness in the final round as he demonstrated in the first, staying clear of Sakai's occasional lunging right hand up top and peppering him with quick 5- and 6- punch combos paddled on the body until ducking and swerving outside with quickened squatting gait.

Very mature performance, didn't start thinking "oh I need to knock this guy out for pops" or anything stupid - realized Sakai was a zombie, stayed within himself, and just put in some gorgeous boxing from bell to bell.
