Chimpa González down 2-0, surprisingly. Getting beaten up, worse and worse each round. Rey Pérez was definitely brought in to lose tonight - he's a 21-9 veteran Filipino road warrior on a 2-5 skid, and in with the 18-1 house fighter signed to Golden Boy.

If you're not watching, it really is an old-school ass whipping. You would think at first glance the records were the other way around.

Has been getting owned since the opening bell. Rey's power seems to have more than gotten his respect - it has totally shut down his own instincts offensively. And the crazy thing about that is that Pérez has only 6 kayos in 30 previous bouts!!

Pretty sure GBP won't be trotting out Chimpa on TV anytime soon... this is embarrassing.

Looks like Perez is going to gas, but Gonzalez should probably start preparing for another field of income.

Yeah the lack of single-blow KO power is going to bite the Pinoy in the ass, I think. If he were able to bust an egg he would already have Chimpa done for by now. He lands WHATEVER he wants.

Putting in some brilliant combination work, too, body to head all while floating his fists out to pick off the occasional counters mustered by González with nudge-down parries.

Chimpa has a bad cut, not sure it was caused by a butt (or ruled as such) but was definitely exacerbated from a few.

Rey should target it like mad and run away with a TKO victory while he can, before he gasses.

edit: never mind, the ref just determined at the beginning of the fifth (or rather, between rounds but they just announced it) that it was from a headbutt. Still, though - four rounds completed, if they went to cards it should definitely be a TD victory for Pérez at this stage.

Sixth was damn near 10-8 (or "Chimpa's team could throw a towel and nobody would bat an eyelash" territory)

Damn that's more of a quotable worthy of his rival Jones - or even of Lennox. (whom I dearly miss on commentary, even though everybody found him annoying back in the day)

    Comp-U-Box through six:
    González 118 of 369, 32%
    Pérez 133 of 521, 26%

ZERO chance those are correct. Pérez isn't missing that much and no way Chimpa has landed even close to as much.

He doesn't look like he's taking a huge beating, but when your fighter has NOTHING, especially when it's your Son, just go ahead and throw the towel in.

The Sindangan Technician pushing hard for the KO in the 7th - it would be his seventh, ever, and his biggest KO (and most important victory period) since he stopped Tatsuya Takahashi with half a minute left in a 10-rounder for the WBC Youth 122lb title five years ago.

I'm not going to say biggest. Chimpa has clearly proven to be on a level below Takahashi now, IMO.

Yeah, just eight rounds jam-packed full of painful emasculation and cerebral trauma, for no reason.
