Pérez is showing pretty uninspiring body language. Pérez cut. Duarte haranguing the Pinoy, attacking the body repeatedly with both hands, swinging wide and hard, unfettered - and Pérez goes down off a left hook to his liver! He's up but hurt. Duarte is swarming, throwing low & high, clipping Pérez with a fat left hook on the cheek and knocking him into a corner. Pérez very hurt. Down again from accumulation while getting pounded on the ropes! Pérez somehow gathers himself up into orthostasis but is getting HAMMERED downstairs. He reaches the bell.

Round 9

Pérez is hurt early. He is calmly zigzagging his way outside, seeking out solace on the ropes, twisting into them and countering with uppercuts to buy some time. Duarte is wildly hurling body shots from outside. Pérez is able to regain his senses a bit as he outmaneuvers Duarte while hugging the ropes. Pérez is flicking a very soft but point-scoring jab in between the eyes of Duarte. Nothing effective from Duarte. Jab, jab, roundhouse right from Pérez while navigating clear of a corner. Wild left hook slung in from outside by Duarte, caught on the lowered right forearm of Pérez. More wild stabs at the body from Duarte. Overhand right thrown from too far out, misgauging distance and aim. Pérez is slipping everything but starting to tire again, lingering on the ropes long enough for Duarte to get close with a couple of bombs. Duarte not sustaining his attacks for more than a couple of blows, loading up too much on each one.

Pérez got the 9th for me but I wouldn't call it a comeback, he "uglied" it just enough to make Duarte not really score any legal shots while happening to get in a light trickle of nothing jabs. He still looks in rough shape and could be KTFO in the last frame...and even if not, the decision is at this point academic. Pérez would need several knockdowns to salvage a draw.

 

Round 10

Pérez is hanging in a bit with Duarte, whipping some left hooks in close but invariably getting chased outside as Duarte begins clanging up top with the overhand right. Duarte is paddling the body lightly just to get Pérez in motion, and then using his skull like a clay pigeon, letting overhand rights sail in roughly the correct direction and praying for at least partial impact. Pérez spoiling and surviving. Pérez is doubling the jab and working a short right cross into the face of a ducking Duarte at short range but is immediately backed off with a clubbing combo. They exchange at the bell, both missing.
