Teddy Atlas has it 39-37 to Lopez.

He gave Martinez the 4th, probably because of the one counter he landed just before the bell. (which Teddy made a point to comment on at length)

    Round 5

Lopez comes out jabbing. Martinez blocks and pushes his own jab across, into the air. Lopez is stepping in and out, scoring jabs on the chest when he wants and fading outside when Martinez counters, never getting touched. Lopez throws a jab feint and pulls his face back to slip a jab, with a Martinez right cross on the belly just grazing. Headbutt as they circle in tight. Hooking flurry by Martinez, quickly backing out. Lope throws jabs into the forearms and lands a couple of whiplash left hooks across the face. Martinez is getting whacked into a corner, turning his back!!! Jack Reiss hurries in and spoons Martinez, telling him "you abandoned the fight! :nono"

    TKO5!

Good stoppage. Don't turn your back. Protect yourself at all times.

Martinez's excuse that he got fouled is weak. They have shown replays from multiple angles. Lopez threw a succession of blocked jabs and clean left hooks to head and body - all legal. Martinez quit...or at least his instincts led him to do something really stupid that he should've known would invite a stoppage.

He gave up his back, dude. Standing eight if someone is hurt. If you face the corner, you are literally putting your life at risk. The ref's job is to recognize that you are giving up and prevent the other guy from literally killing you.

i think the ref just said that there is no standing 8 count rule.

    Martinez pulled an Angulo

"You have responsibility for how you react when you are hurt. You hold, you run, you take a knee - turning your back is never an option in professional boxing. :conf"

Jack Reiss is 100% correct. :deal

Can't turn your back on a foe. If worse comes to worse and you do so involuntarily (a la Mayweather against Famaso) take a knee. At the very least, you're still in the contest and you have eight seconds to regain your bearings.

    Good performance by Josesito.
