ESPN's Teddy Atlas puts Danny Garcia vs Rod Salka on Blast (video)

What? Can Danny Garcia do anything wrong, in your eyes? Mattyssee isn't a defending champion. This has nothing to do with race, creed, nationality, or religion. This has everything to do with a unified and lineal champion making a defense against an unranked, ridiculous opponent, and it being sanctioned, to boot. It deserves to be criticized. If you had an ounce of objectivity in you, you would agree that it's ridiculous and unbecoming of a champion.

 

Amen, iceman.

 

The people defending this matchup are missing the point. Surely Danny Garcia, as the champion, can fight whomever he chooses. If he wants a tune-up, I can''t begrudge him the fact. The issue comes down to Showtime putting up the money to air this mismatch. The figures aren't out, but I'd reckon he'll get somewhere in the $1 million range that Guerrero got for his comeback at Stub Hub Center last month.

I understand Espinoza probably has to give Haymon whatever he wants as a result of the Mayweather deal. Unfortunately, subscribers are subsidizing Espinoza's commitment to Haymon. For every $1 million that goes to Danny Garcia fighting a scrub, that's $1 million less that goes to fights that the fans actually want to see. I don't want my $13-15 a month going directly into the pockets of Mr. Haymon. This only emboldens him to continue and make these types of cash grabs in the future.

I couldn't care less which organization rates Salka where. WBC and WBA ratings mean nothing to me. But I have yet to see any media rankings, whether it be Ring Magazine, Transitional Ratings, Dan Rafael, etc. have Salka anywhere close to the Top 10.

 

Has Danny's father responded via raving incoherant video as of yet?

 

How many unranked fighters did other champions fight in between big/serious fights?. Garcia isn't doing anything that hasn't been done before. It's still better than being inactive.

 

you know danny will say "i fight whoever al haymon puts infront of me" but thats BS he should stand up for himself and speak up. he knows this is a crap fight too. Danny i give him props for what he has was in the pass being the under dog vs khan and going in with Mattysse but recently dude has been falling off. perfect way to loose fans... he needs to speak up.

 

he did have a tune up fight vs hererra and it backfired. now he needs another tune up?.... NO. respect Danny but this is a Crap fight and he knows it too.

 

I for one place all the blame solely on Richard Schaefer. His inability to make fights as compelling as this one shows he never had Golden Boy's best interests at heart.
