Great stuff guys, I appreciate it. The only thing that I am having trouble with is finding primary documents for sources, haha.
Still, this is all his public image Nobody knows what Obama is like in the confinements of his immediate family, yet he is the most written about person in the entire world. It's easy to take all these stories, books, and articles, put them together, and think you know what he was really like, when we are dealing with a person who lived 100 years ago. But he lived for about 65 years. Theres more to him then just the outstanding documents about him. Hell, we barely know what he was really like as a kid. We know that he was raised in a town together with white people where everyone was poor. We know that he had white childhood friends, who didnt see race because they were all equally poor. This gave him the unique ability to see racism in a different way then most, because he simply didnt experience it to the same degree as most. But we dont know anything about him. People dont even know what Muhammad Ali is like in the confinements of his home, yet he is the 3rd most written about human being in history, and aside from Obama, the most famous person walking on Earth
Next is, i wish i could write it. but my pencil hurts! The pain of it allll! Oh if there were only a brilliant genius on the internet with amazing insight and opinions who could write it for me. A pencil! My kingdom for a PENCIL. suckers lol youtube.com/eslubin
Funny stuff my man. But no, I actually enjoy writing my own essays. I have already written the first couple pages, and the professor says it is looking good so far, but he pursuaded me to change my thesis around a bit. Instead of Jack Johnson was bad for racial advancement as my thesis, I have combined the original thesis as one half of my argument and for the other half, I will explain how he was good for racial advancement.
These are great quotes to consider in this argument, but where did you come across them. I don't remember hearing of a Jack Blackburn autobiography, and I must say, I am quite surprised that Moore would say such a thing.
Not when you consider how long Archie had to struggle to get his title shot. He lived in a more racially tolerant time than Johnson, yet he struggled a lot longer to get his title shot. I have read/heard these quotes numerous times over the years. Don't remember where I first came across them, but they're public record and have been in circulation for a long time. The Blackburn quote I may have first read in Louis's autobiography "My Life".
You can absolutely reconstruct sombody from these type of sources. In 1943 the US goverment comisioned a leading proffessor of psychology to produce a profile of Hitler, and predict how he would behave as the war progressed. The researcher was uncannily acurate in all his predictions. A researcher who wanted to produce a psychological profile of Jack Johnson could do so from the available material.
Personally I try not to judge a man until I meet him direct and deal with him myself. What someone tells me about him doesn't mean much to me. But that's just me youtube.com/eslubin
Your talking about a professor whose job it was to analyze Hitler to predict his next strategic moves? That still doesnt answer who he was. However, for reasons your not using, Hitler's life and who he was is not a mystery. The mind of Hitler has been a subject of interest ever since he came into power. A diabolical evil man, yet who was able to control an entire country, and almost the world. His family who still live today, live in shame of their name, and try to hide their ancestry. When you have a unique situation such as this, his book is totally open. However it doesn't apply to pretty much anyone else in the world. Imagine you became incredibly famous one day for the incredible hard work you put into your career, and there was a book written about you. Then to describe who you were as a person, they use quotes from people such as your childhood classmate, and assess the description of you in class, as who you are as a person. Would that justify the truth? Or are you much deeper and complex then you let off in the class room, or the time you conversed with those guests at a party, or the time you had a bad day and rudely ignored the stranger inquiring directions. Because these are the things and events in your life they would "piece together" to describe you as a human being.
I just turned my essay in today. 9 pages of text. I wish to thank you all for your support and input that lead me in the right direction. I appreciate it greatly.
I think he was one of the few, blessed people in modern times who were really free. Blacks, whites, asians doesn´t matter, we all are somekind trapped and enslaved, Johnson, however, was truly free. Something I find very admirable and I am a bit jealous of.
A- on the paper. 92%. Thank you again gentleman. For the record I didn't get a chance to incorporate any of your suggestions into the paper due to lack of primary sources/documents. However, your responses to this thread proved very thought provoking and led me in the right direction several times, and for that I am very grateful. Have a very happy holiday and prosperous New Year.
