Cañizales smacks aside Bermúdez's jab. Cañizales is keeping his earmuffs clamped on and hooking the body when Bermúdez jabs high along the center lane of his upper scalp. Three-pieces by Cañizales ducking in but heavy long-armed bent-elbow pummelings from above by the looming, forward-folded Bermúdez, who then stretches his rear leg out and drags the front to maneuver himself into sniping range with the jab.

So far this is justifying its circling on my calendar.

 

Did you catch the appetizer? Didn't start with quite the same pace nor feature as much skill (or explosive power) but it warmed up the crowd and set a nice tone for this.

 

Cañizales doing his best to make it a boxing match and having spurts of success, but the inevitable brawl is forced on him with Bermúdez imposing his size and will, drowning the champion in volume, not everything neat but even the stuff not landing cleanly is piling on the heavy-handed damage. 2-0

 

LOUD body shots reverberating home for Bermúdez when near enough, otherwise he is lunging and missing amateurishly with lead hooks from afar when Cañizales gets on his bike. Cañizales darting in with some 1-2s and hook-cross combos on the chest before melting away into a crouching ride on the outermost horse on the carousel. Rocky first half but touching without getting touched in the final 90 seconds anyway.

29-28 Bermúdez

 

Commentators also have it 29-28 but not sure for whom (they spoke their score but again no graphic onscreen, and I have a hard time keeping up with fast broadcaster Spanish)

 

Slugfest in the fourth but Cañizales manages to calm things down and gain control after the opening minute, bunching his arms together and soaking up Bermúdez's long, sinewy, pendulous bombs and countering down the middle and with economic body punching of his own.

From this vantage really feels like anything could happen...from Cañizales or Bermúdez via UD to Cañizales or Bermúdez via KO5...

 

Heard them clearly this time... commentators both agree with each other having Cañizales up 39-37

 

Cañizales diving in and colliding with Bermúdez, nullifying his spider-limbed offense with lots of clinches and caroms, playing hit and run and scoring more sharply... although Bermúdez still has an easy time finding him backing out with the long jab in the mush.
