No rematch unless they get rid of the rehydration clause doubt Eubank would put himself through that again anyway. Hearn saying he should come down more what an absolute disgrace he's been recently does he want to permanently hurt the bloke?
This content is protected Hearn has really got his media people working hard on Benn to mould him into some sort of darling of the public. Every single thing Benn has done since the fight on the mic or on social media has been very meticulous. Earlier today he posted an IG story taking his kid home from school and the stuff in the presser about being happy that Senior was there may well be genuine but I can guarantee it was encouraged by Matchroom’s media guys.
Yep, literally the point of my post. It’s good promotion from Matchroom and whatever he does next a much larger portion of the public will be backing him compared to the criticism after the failed tests.
The way Eubank brushed off the fine for missing weight makes me think he'd give up the rematch too. Hope so. Benn needs to find his level and he won't do that fighting an ageing, heavier Eubank.
Here’s a curveball into the mix. Eubank JNR v Jake Paul Eubank JNR makes more money than what he did against Benn.
My opinion is that the standard for a Box Office event should be the odd annual fight between 2 evenly matched fighters for a World Title. Anything less is taking the urine hence the term loot which is extracted from mugs who will fork out for anything these days. The sheer number these days is simply sensational with any fight of above average interest now Box Office. Sat night between a badly dehydrated old fighter at end of career against an Essex Area level fighter on eggs sums it up well.
Hearn and his Matchroom Media staff are really good - look at Dramashow on here who worked his nads off trying to promote Matchroom fighters, boxers, PPVs and DAZN UK subs. We all remember the creation of a Humble Persona sold to the mug public for a man last seen being scraped off the canvas at Wembley Stadium. You have spotted it well - Connor Benn is Humble 2.
No doubt they are trying to create the next PPV star to replace AJ. But he isn't going to get close to those heights and the damage is well and truly done to his image. AJ was the UK golden boy, gold medallist at a home Olympics with a clean image they could market and build around plus was already known to most sports fans and households so the reach of him from day 1 was massive. Benn is the complete opposite, until this fight he hasn't crossed over to the general public at all, and the only reason he did was for the pure one off of a legacy fight based on surnames. Matchroom can chirp all they want, but most boxing fans will never forget multiple failed tests and all the bad attitude/entitled behaviour interviews will be forever dug up reminding people of his persona. Add to that he is clearly limited in ability and as much as they keep telling us he's a 'kid' - the truth is he turns 30 next year and just moving into the back end of his career so they don't have an eternity to build him. At this point they would be better off keeping him as a bad guy and hoping masses tune in to watch him in the hope he loses - 'the people's champion' he is most certainly not
I was just thinking this! He's getting older, trained in a pro gym for 10 years now and lord knows what alleged PEDs would have done to his longevity.
Benn really needs to start his world title campaign at what ever division he plans on fighting at. He'll be 29 soon and should be at his peak considering he's a smaller fighter.
He won't get the payday elsewhere and he must be thinking about retirement, he gets more in a rematch with Benn than he does in a fight with canelo. It makes perfect sense, he would also perhaps be in a stronger position at the negotiation table. A rematch draws in more buys than the first fight.
