I was wondering why he was on my ignore list.

Punches feel harder when you are underprepared and rusty as the Titanic, and Eubank was both of those things. Calzaghe's stoppage record in world title fights and his stoppage record vs good comp does not show someone who was a very good puncher. He had decent power, which diminished the longer his career went. By the end at lhw, I'd say he was positively feather-fisted.

I remember watching one of his first few pro fights and the commentator observed that Calzaghe seemed 'heavy-handed' and he certainly seemed to throw punches with more authority than his later fights. It's been common knowledge that he had brittle hands for quite a few years and had to adapt his style. No big secret.

    Yep...

Its a good thing Eubank didn't fight Roy then, it wouldn't feel like a brick but a damn car hitting him.:yep

I have seen earlier Calzaghe fights, he was never a power puncher, never.

Joe has only ever put two folks, in nearly 50 odd fights, down for ten, in his whole career and considering the chumps he fought early on, it's clear that he never had power.

He was suposed to get Jones out of there, Calzaghe, a man still very much seen in his prime.

    See Green fight.

The only ones who do not notice Calzaghe in his prime are his huge fans that are trying to even the playing field over the much declined Hopkins and Jones. Almost like they were all shot, so it would have been the same at any point.

Now he was some kind of power puncher in his prime.:patsch

I have seen early Calzaghe fights, he was never a power puncher, sure you can hurt people in a boxing match with a punch, that doesn't mean you have power.

Well alot of fighters have said he slapped and then changed their tune after the fight. i.e. lacy and jones and during this time he had britle hands.

and to say Joe was in his prime when he fought Hopkins and jones is just some bitter **** by fans of both fighters. thing is if Cal was american alot of these posters would be singing a different tune

I wouldn't say it was peak Calzaghe, but he sure was not that far out of his prime, being as how i think he gained more ring smarts as he got older, and his punch resistance, work rate and speed were still there.

Kind of how most people take a notch off of Roy's victory over Hopkins, even though Hopkins was faster, hit harder, more active when Roy beat him. Calzaghe aged well as a fighter, no one can tell me he was anywhere near shot when he fought Hopkins and Jones.
