It would of been a hell of a fight . Its a pickem fight I like Toney's defense though but you never know which Toney would have shown up ..
I remember wanting to see that fight so bad. Both men were at the top of their game. I cannot see anybody cleanly beating a motivated, fit, prime Toney. Eubanks was a warrior, man what a fight it would have been. Its times like that I wish boxing had the same structure as UFC!
I always thought it would be one of those fights were they cancel each other out.Toney despised British fighters though, and while Eubank had many snoozefests,he had a big heart and a big arsenal when real questions were asked.I always favoured Toney to win it,and I was a Eubank fan,but as time passes I lean towards the monicled one.

Eubank probably meant how he felt after 'killing' Watson. He pulled his punches for years after Michael was crippled, afraid to hurt people. But he would have to go all out to take toney, hence the comment. Agree with the above but thed distance is not that big between them, and on a good day with all his faculties day Eubank could match Toney.
You mean undefeated, 26 year old, two division, at that time IBF super middleweight champion James Toney? Who lost a shutout against Roy Jones?
So hard to pick between the two, i lean towards Eubank but both guys could be inconsistent. In fact its probably what would decide the fight.
That was a Toney who lost 60lbs in a few weeks and was on a drip in hospital the night before the fight to keep him alive.
You know, I think making middleweight affected James a lot. I was watching his career and there are a string of fights were he was losing and either got lucky with the decision or got a come from behind knockout late, before Jones beat him. He definitely got "better" later in his career, his run at even heavy is pretty impressive considering. Michael Nunn was, I think, winning at the time of the stoppage, Reggie Johnson knocked him down and had a super close fight that resulted in an SD, Dave Tiberi ACTUALLY DESERVED TO WIN (UNBELIEVABLE!) and the McCallum I fight could have gone either way, honestly. So he was not leagues better than those guys ... or maybe he was an underachiever at that weight. Eubank has a slim chance of catching Toney at those weights in my opinion.
This is a great and frank piece of opinion that should be read by everyone involved in prize fighting. I endours EUbak's decision not to fight Toney.
