Em didn't practically all of the people in Jamaica (pretty much everybody) originally come over from Africa? Africans were shipped over to Jamaica, as slaves, by the British (english) empire, (1655-1838 ) so near enough everyone indigenous to Jamaica can trace their genetic roots back to Africa. Liverpool was one of the primary cities, that the slave boats used to arrive in, in Britain...slavery was one on the most shameful parts of British history. If you look round many of the old buildings in Liverpool, Especially, near the docks, you can see remnants of the slave trade and the vast money it created there. http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/ism/slavery/europe/liverpool.aspx
He shouldn't have. It certainly wasn't racist, but it was a scummy comment. A scummy, scummy comment. Quite clever if you're looking to get under someone's skin, though.
But Collins was born in Ireland. If Collins' great great grandparents had been from Poland and moved to France and then his parents had moved to Ireland and he was born and raised in Ireland, he would be Irish. Why on earth should Eubank or any other non white Brit who is born and raised here and shaped by where they grew up, identify with Africa or Asia or whatever continent their ancestors from over a century ago came from? Most black Brits also identify with their parents or grandparents' country too, hence things like Notting Hill Carnival. But I'm glad that someone who was born in the country, educated here, used its services and grew up with friends and peers from this country identifies themselves as being British. If I moved to the US and had a kid, I'd expect my child to grow up identifying with the USA. It's common sense.
