I think the ITV thing might prove to be a stumbling block and the fact that they like to have a big say in negotiations. They're not ones for adhering to other people's terms either. Although I think Eubank Senior is has daft has a brush, he's been very careful and clever in the way he's steered his sons career to avoid anyone too dangerous (Bar BJS) but this tournament has got car crash written all over it. These are genuine big Super middleweights.
Sink or swim time for him. I actually think the old mans ran his career very well so far as well. Golovkin at that point was madness anyway. The bjs,s was too early made a mistake with it but was a good learning fight without taking too much damage and hes fiddled him about with some of the fights. But hes starting to tick boxes. As in clearing out a lot of the british fighters. With a few european level and now an ageing world level fighter. Got him on itv ppv. Building a decent name and still just 27 years old. Also dont think the tournaments so strong it should be avoided. Groves is one of my favourite fighters...but if they do meet i ll be watching that fight through my fingers bearing in mind groves will probably always be vulnerable eubanks a good offensive fighter. And groves is probably the strongest fighter in that tournament. I know you like smith twenty...i m not convinced yet tho. Looks good but them opponents look handpicked so far. Always either too small or cant do much damage eubanks got decent height with a quality offence. Usually i dont lke guys moving up unless they have too but think eubank might be able to bridge the gap with his workrate and i still think his punches do do accumulative damage. Them uppercuts are no joke. Be interesting to find out anyway.
That was a largely predictable affair wasn't it? Every time Jr uploads a video of him hitting the pads, someone comments "well the pads don't hit back". As it turns out, that was perfect practice for this fight... I still see an awful lot of flaws in Jr that haven't been corrected, but his style was perfect for someone like Abe. I think Abe was able to land his jab too easily and boy oh boy does he need to swing less wildly and try to throw a straight punch. Even at 37 and faded, Abraham is still a decent enough guy I guess and is certainly Jr's best win. His hand speed was still impressive though again technically flawed, he never really generating proper weight into his shots owing to his foot placement. All the same, got the job done without any real issues. Took a few digs off Abe without being shook either so that's a positive sign for him.
Absolute rubbish that he was outboxed, and BJS was very, very fortunate to get a decision that many would argue should have gone the other way.
What was absolute rubbish was...THE FIGHT! What a stinker. Reflected no credit on either man. But at least CEJ has improved a lot and moved on ...not so pikey Joe. That said BJS was a clear winner, insofar as he was clearly the "least worse" of the two. Be a different story if they rematch now though.
Not so sure, vast majority on here and most other places agree BJS won. A close but clear win, was my thoughts. He was outboxed though, in my opinion. Saunders being Saunders meant he couldn't do that for 12 rounds though and that's where Jr's conditioning came in to allow him to take over most of the 2nd half of the fight.
Groves is vulnerable to big shots but I don't think Eubank has that type of power to take it all out of Groves, of course a big accumulation of shots could do damage but with Groves footwork and world class Jab I don't think Eubank will be able to just walk up and tee off.
I just don't view someone as 'outboxing' another if you can only keep it up for 3 or 4 rounds out of 12. Sure he may have been superior for those rounds, but unless you can dominate all the fight and stop your opponent winning plenty of rounds then you are not outboxing anyone.
Sorry mate but being a bit sad I've watched that fight 3 times since that night. He outboxes Eubank for 6 rounds. Eubank works his way back into it but even then he doesn't win every round. Imo BJS won by at least 2, possibly 3 rounds. Skill beat workrate that night. Not sure what would happen now if they fought but that's more to do with whether BJS has deteriorated or not.
Wow... so someone needs to win more than "3 or 4" rounds out if 12 to win a fight? No kidding Einstein! BJS clearly outboxed a VERY green CEJ that night and definitely won that fight. It was an awful spectacle. I admire 20man for having the intestinal fortitude to sit through that appalling scuffle more than once. I couldn't bring myself to do it. Fortunately I don't have to as my razor-like boxing brain enables me to establish the winner of a fight on one viewing!!! FWIW today's CEJ would beat ..probably easily beat, today's BJS.
Definitely not what I said. 'Outboxing' someone opposed to simply just winning rounds are completley different things.
Yeah, I agree. Jr looked confused by someone whose hand speed matches his own and knew how to use it properly...
Anyone else think it was more down to a stupid gameplan of eubanks knowing bjs,s staminas a weakness. Give away the first few rounds before coming on strong. Looked to me like a bit of a i m too smart for my own good joe gallagher moment from the eubanks that backfired. Either way there wasnt much between them in the fight. Considering billy joes an accomplished amatuer world title holder...and eubank was pretty green at the time. I actually think eubank came out of the fight with more plaudits. Eubank is good. Its just that their talk regarding him is ludicrous at times...everyone then wants to downplay him to the extent a win against abrahams not a good win. Eubank is one of britains biggest talents in the making at 27 for me even tho his techniques not the best at times. He goes from looking a world beater ready to take on anyone to an amateur sometimes in the same round. But hes got the tools to cause anyone problems for me. Never an elite type fighter but not many are tbh.
Ha ha. Its like my brains just recovering from not getting on the jack daniels from about 1pm everyday len. Fed up of being back home already mate.
