So, Eubank Jn fights Yildirim in the Turks ‘second home’. Having operated at 175, Yildirim enters the super middleweight tournament has a unknown quantity. We know he likes to march forwards and work on the inside. Stylistically, this could be a really entertaining fight as we know Eubank Jn loves that kind of fight. He won’t have to go looking for Yildirim, but is it wise standing toe to toe with the physically bigger man? Anyway, how do we see this going?
Yildirim was the dude who knocked out DeGale's teeth the week before the Jack fight. I know sparring is sparring, but if DeGale's punches don't dissuade Avni from coming forward and throwing then I don't see how featherfisted Eubank can. I still expect Jr to win but I think it will be far from a walk in the park like the Abraham fight was.
Totally agree, no way on this earth does Eubank KO him. I can see him getting ‘injured’ in this fight. I think it will be a UD for Eubank though.
From what I've seen of him on YouTube he doesn't look to be the fleetest of foot nor the quickest of hand. Non-existent jab too. Eubank Jr should outbox relatively comfortably if he's smart, but the guy looks like he has real thudding power so he will be dangerous.
CEJs superior overall athleticism should see him thru as usual. He will - eventually - meet a guy who has the 'complete package' that his till-now-successful approach will fail against. But Yildrim aint that guy.
This should be a pretty fun fight actually. A good technical fighter with a solid jab beats Eubank, but that isn't what Yildrim is. He's strong but not very slow or much of a mover. He should be able to take Jr's power and return with his own which should make this a really fun match. Leaning toward a Jr points win here as outside of the Periban win there isn't enough to make me call the upset.
Yildirim may not have a p4p level jab like Groves, but he does have a good Jab. Groves jab is exceptional, he uses it to aid his defense keeping distance, he uses it to set up his offence and he's capable of bludgeoning opponents with it. Groves Jab is as good as it gets, super accurate and sharp as a knife. Yildirims Jab is more like GGG's, one dimensional, its just a hard sledge hammer of a jab that he uses to soften up his opponents. Yildirim and GGG have jabs that feel like most blokes straight right hand. They don't really do much else with it to be fair but they don't need to, their one dimension is good enough. If you get peppered with their jab for multiple rounds you will end up looking like an alien. A jab is a great tool but you need more than that at world level. Avni has far more in his tool belt for sure. I actually think the winner of this fight wins the WBSS. They don't have similar styles but they both possess qualties that give them stylistic advantages, especially against Groves and to a lesser extent Callum Smith. Yildirim is a fair bit like Chudinov, just a lot bigger and physically more imposing. Chudinov gave Groves all he could handle and I think Groves was lucky the ref stopped the fight, because I think he had blown his load and if Chudinov was allowed to continue I have a feeling he could have made a rally and taken Groves out. The Chudinov brothers are as tough as they come, I don't think Yildirim is tougher than them but I have a feeling he's exceptionally tough. Fedor had some terrible defense against Groves and took every punch flush but tbh he was barely wobbled. Froch is known as a hard man but he couldn't take flush bombs anywhere near as well as Fedor, the only reason he survived is he's a bit slipperier and has better defensive skills and the ref was a little more lenient for him. I reckon Avni would push Groves back much easier than Fedor which will take the sting off his punches, and Avni has better movement in compariosn to Fedor so will ride the punches better too. Avni is capable of punching with Groves which will make him much more dangerous. Fedor tended to wait until Groves finished punching before he had a go. Avni is not only one of the biggest and strongest guys in the division he also has one of the best gas tanks, pretty much the only guy I think that can match Eubank in this department. Groves stamina is probably his biggest weakness. With Avni's ram rod jab, huge size, exceptional stamina and strength I think he's a threat to anyone and wont be surprised at all if he beats Jr. Still I will be picking Jr by decision and then I will pick Jr to beat Groves TKO7
He needs to make Groves work, he needs to make him feel under pressure from the opening bell. Groves jab is going to be effective, its that good. The thing is it won't be as good when Groves starts fading. Jr has speed, and he does move his head well, Jr's issue with his defense is when he gets too cocky and doesn't put his hands up. Jr needs to stay focused early and to try to make Groves miss or hit gloves as much as possible. Every missed or blocked punch will fatigue Groves mentally. Jr is one of the best body punchers in the game, he will attack Groves body and will slow him down, body punching will set up the blazing combo's as well. Jr does have a fast and accurate jab, smacking it in Groves face will be essential too.
Is there some injury problem with CEJs elbows or some such - isnt that why he doesnt jab much??? (Thought I heard that somewhere....)
I think he's been getting acupuncture treatment on it recently to help resolve it. Has had a problem with his elbow for years apparently, saw an interview saying thats why he focused a lot more on his uppercuts, hooks and inside work.
What a tremendous fight this is and a complete tragedy that it's on PPV. Credit has to go to Eubank Jr for taking this on in Germany. He picked Yildrim purely based on the fact that he knocked Chunky's teeth out and gave him a good battle in sparring. That's commendable IMO. This fight poster is jokes: http://www.*******.com/photos-avni-yildirim-training-war-with-chris-eubank-jr--120602 English and Junior should have made one on reply wearing old Victorian clothing lol.
