Great experience for the lad, he didn't seem too marked up or tired after last night so why not? Many fighters used to fight a few times a week.
Maybe a week is a little too soon, but nice to see novice fighters keeping active, far too many don't.
I expect it to be an easier opponent who wont caus too many problems, in which case definitely a good thing. SOme people try and claim Eubank Jr hasn't been matched tough...show me a few british fighter from the last 10 - 15 years with a harder set of early opposition. There aren't many! An easier fight not sold to the casuals to work on things, gain ring experience and confidence etc...no bad thing for him.
If he is learning something, it is no bad thing. His ol' man used to fight twice a month quite often on the way up, and he did not turn too bad... As long as the lessons of say a Tony Collins are learnt, it is a step in the right direction, and a path others 'learning their trade' would do well to follow. Look at a quality fighter of the recent past: Lennox Lewis fought 13 fights in 13 months, starting at area level and finishing at former contender, now solid journeyman level (Ocasio). All these fights were on ITV, some live, and Lewis got a ton of grief for the quality of this opposition, but look what happened next: He is European Champ in fight 14, and beating an unbeaten legitimate world ranked top 10 fighter (Mason) in fight 15...
Because dégale fights next week on five and they obviously need someone else on the card who brings in a few viewers. I prefer this anyway, just means more boxing on tv. Plus you'll learn more from two 8 rounders with different opponents than you would with a 12 rounder. We already know his fitness is there.
I don't mind him fighting this often provided his health is ok. It's because of TV dates that he is out again next week. Eubank might be farmed out to the likes of Coldwell and Goodwin if Eubank Sr thinks Hennessey isn't getting him enough fights. I think he's done well so far but his lack of power is worrying. Definately work in progress but not a write off.
Thought the Pryce fight was good match making which he'll really learn from and I see no reason why he shouldn't fight again in 7 days. He'll rest up, swelling will go down, perhaps some hot and cold baths, a few light training sessions with light sparring and he'll be good to go again for saturday. Another competent opponent who will come to fight will be enough. Hennessey should be getting all his big fighters out the TV dates. C5 is huge exposure. He should have had a Christmas bonanza with Fury, DeGale, Eubank, Galahad etc all on one card in a big venue, whole show on C5, marketing etc Cap of 2012 and go into 2013 with some credibility and a higher profile.
Getting paid twice will probably work out better than getting paid once. I think he's doing okay. I'm looking forward to seeing him next Saturday. His fight with Pryce was decent, better than the **** main event.
One week is definitely very quick, but credit to him stepping up to the plate and doing this compared to boxers who fight twice a year.
Next weeks fight is TBA so I'd guess it will be an easy nights work just to pad the card a bit. Fair play to him for taking it though, he must have known Pryce would be a tough fight.
