The thing is that the money in WBSS is supposedly huge, especially for the winner. Groves could potentially beat Smith in the final and then box Degale on PPV. Sauerlands would be doing him extremely dirty if they ****ed him over like this.

Smith would get a life sentence after the abuse he would dish out to that bum.

Smith would beat Dirrell and Uzcategui and Uzcategui dad Korobov on the same night

I wouldnt be shocked if Eubank were to beat Smith. Its a boxing match that I would struggle to pick.

    Let me guess...NO

Dirrell is a bum, completly overrated and done since his loss vs degale Uzcategui destroyed him twice, he will destroy Smith within 5-6 rounds

How can you seriously think Smith beats Bolivita? NOOOOOOO WAY

Groves' camp claimed that the Smith camp tried to force the WBSS not to delay the fight as they realize his unbeaten record would be in grave danger vs Groves.

There's no hard and fast evidence, but I incline to believe this - after all they had no difficulty delaying the Usyk - Gassiev fight because Gassiev didn't object.

This is a joke. Groves should be given enough time to recover. Or is his injury worse than first feared?

My only thought against this is CEJ is a small SMW and Smith is essentially a LHW and 6' 3'' and bearing in mind Eubank has kindergarten-level feet, how would he manage to engage if Smith just chose to jab from range?

If Eubank beats Smith, does Grooves then get the trophy?

yeah you're probably right. I'm just not hot on Smith. He's a decent jab but nowhere near as good as Groves. And he's very predictable. Jnr could get inside and unleash his uppercuts. Possibly.

Just postpone the final and allow the rightful finalist time for their injury to heal. Eubanks (or as David Benavidez calls him Eurbanks) got his ass paddled and still had the audacity to claim him won so he can go kick rocks. Let Smith fight his brother Paul in the final and donate 50% of their purses to Erik Skoglund.

Totally agree re: Smith, overrated power and skill set. I'd fancy a fully-fit Groves to beat him and wonder if Hearn knows this too? There might be some opportunism going on here....

Groves-Eubank was like the night Harold Lederman awarded all 11 rounds to Meldrick Taylor in his first fight with Julio Cesar Chavez, and then it was discovered later how much internal damage Taylor suffered, including swallowing nearly a pint of his own blood.

UK fans and boxing pundits keep insisting Groves schooled or owned Eubank. But I wasn't a fan of either guy and watched it in the States live, and I didn't see it that way at all.

Somebody was beating the crap out of Groves, and it wasn't the ref.

I thought Groves barely edged it on the cards, simply because he landed more scoring blows. But Eubank was landing the much harder shots. And Groves held constantly ... I never saw much clinching in a fight in years. It was embarrassing. And Groves was doing it because Eubank's punches were fewer but clearly more effective.

Now Groves can't compete in the final because he still hasn't recovered from the beating he suffered that night.

I don't have any problem with Eubank replacing him. Groves can't make the fight BECAUSE of the beating he suffered at Eubank's hands. Chris deserves to be Groves' replacement.

I'd say, after Eubank wins the tournament, he and Groves could rematch.

But I'm sure Groves never wants to fight Eubank ever again.

Eubank may have lost on the cards, because of the way boxing scored, but Eubank beat the hell out of Groves in their actual "fight."

Good post. In reality it was a clear win for Groves but close. Certainly wasn’t the “schooling” some people here made it out to be.
