That's exactly what Joe should have said too. But he hasn't got Eubank's honesty and integrity.

Well, Joe more or less said it back when Roy was prime.

    What a great video.

I think a case can certainly be made that Roy should have fought Collins at SMW.. By the time Roy had moved up to LHW, it would have been pointless.. It is a shame we missed that one.

It looks a bit too as if Collins ducked out on Calzaghe.

One thing is for sure, anyone that can watch that and still insist Roy ducked Eubank isn't worth talking to.

They need to get James Toney in there and have that whole table do an old man round robin Tourney. I would still watch it.:rofl

Eubank was on the same level as two American fighters at SMW. At the SMW weight class yeah Eubank had the capability to beat Toney or Jones. They would be competitive fights

Could you imagine what would have happened had Toney been on that show? Ha!

It would have been nice if Roy had've fought Collins at SMW, but it's no big deal that he didn't in my opinion.

Roy couldn't unify the division, and Steve's belt wasn't respected. He was a tough warrior, but if fights with Benn and Liles couldn't happen, then what would have been the point in fighting him? I think 175 was a more attractive proposition at the time for Roy.

Regarding Collins and Joe, I know that in 99 Collins collapsed during sparring and was forced to retire.

But in 97, I think he'd just lost all motivation.

But why did he sign for the fight in the first place?

In the video, he says he had to withdraw due to an injury, but I don't think that was the reason. I've never heard that he was injured, and he certainly never said it at the time to my knowledge.

Jones gave up the WBC belt when Nunn was mandatory around the same time Collins gave his up when Calzaghe was mandatory...

Was this not when Roy had a fight with Buster Douglas in the works?

Yes he called out a come backing Buster Douglas when Nunn became his mandatory and vacated the title. When Nunn lost to Rochigianni in the vacant title shot he suddenly changed his mind.

Jones said his father, who he had not had a good relationship with in years, had advised him not to take the Buster Douglas fight. He ended his working relationship with his father because he felt his father was holding him back and was being too cautious, to then take the kind of advise that ended their partnership seemed very strange at the time.

He asked his mom first and she said go for it, which is why he then asked his father or so the story goes.

Nunn would beat Guthrie to become Jones's wbc lhw mandatory again and he would get pushed into a elimination bout with Woods. As he prepared for the fight jones said he was going to vacant the wbc and move up to hw( I guess he forgot about his fathers advice) . Nunn would then withdraw from the Woods fight and Jones would stay at lhw.
