i like eubank to pull out a decision. the eubank after the 1991 watson fight would probably not have it in him to beat gerald. but saying that he got a draw against benn
Hmm McClellan pre-brain trauma? Did he have brain trauma pre-Benn? McClellan is far better technically than Chris, Chris plays a very effective counter puncher and he would get to GMAN but would he do enough? McClellan's jab was also the better 1 Styles make fights and I think GMAN takes a UD, he is the bigger puncher and has better technical boxing ability, Eubank would turn up the heat late if losing as he did against Benn/Watson and GMAN may or may not have had the stamina to hold out as he was fading in the 1 long fight he had. However him fading against Benn could be due to the pre-existing brain trauma I don't see him stopping the iron chinned Eubank but if anyone could it would be GMAN, devastating puncher, I think GMAN wins but allot of question marks as we didnt get to see Gerald against this type of opponent ever
McClellan PRIME vs Eubank when he was at his most ferocious and most skilled (obviously before Watson 2 but after Benn 1) would be only one outcome; Eubank decision or late stoppage. McClellan has very heavy hands and had good fundementals. But Eubank was awkward, a good boxer, and armed with a granite chin. He also happens to be one of those massive hitters with deceivingly low number of K.O's.
I favor Gerald. McClellan had good skills when he used him, and his length and speed would be problematic for Eubank.. in addition to of couse the power. Plus Eubank IMO didnt like it to the body, and Gerald was a VICIOUS body puncher. G-man by decision.. dropping Eubank along the way with a body shot.
Very good observation which I didn't take into account. This makes it closer IMO, but on neutral ground I still favour Eubank. I feel Eubank's feints and strane movement would through GMAN off of his rhythm and leave him open to heavy-handed and pinpoint counters. Let us not forget that Gerald was not unhittable. Neither was Eubank but I believe he possesed the better chin.
Not sure, but I do know McClellan affected some absolutely iron chins. He stopped the iron chinned Baptist in 1 and as far as I know was the only guy to ever knock down Sanderline Williams, and that includes Merqui Sosa and Nigel Benn, Iran Barkley, Herol Graham, and James Toney 2x.
