Froch's resume isn't lauded just because of who he has fought, it's also because of who he hasn't fought or avoided (ie no-one). He's fought a succession of top 5-10 guys, usually away from home, and there's pretty much no-one left for him to fight except for Bute, who he's been talking about fighting twice, and I'm sure Carl would get back in the ring with Pascal, Kessler, Ward, etc in a heartbeat. Contrast that with Haye's awful HW career, Khan's match-making and the blatant cherry-picking and ducking that goes on in the wider boxing world and it's obvious that Froch's attitude is worth celebrating. Even Froch's biggest critics could not accuse him of ducking anyone, waiting until a rival got old or being a stay-at-home fighter. What's not to like?
One thing that counts against Froch is his mere regionality. Hes from Nottingham, whereas the majority of Sky Boxing viewers are from the South East of England - why is that relevant? - well its true that a lot of people in the South East of England are so regioncentric that they wouldnt recognise a Nottinghamshire accent, let alone recognise Carl Froch. Froch's support in Nottingham is however legendary and he gets spotted instantly in the Midlands, much as does Ricky Hatton in Manchester. If Froch was living in London for his career, then he's be well known in London by now.
I know alot of people from Notts or who go there for uni and every one of the lads knows who Froch is and would recognise him on the street
yeah his local support is freakish. It seems to be the pattern of things the further North you go. Glen McCrory and err...John Cornelius Carr (lol) used to have massive entourages, even though they did next to nothing as champions. We are kinda lucky Alan Shearer didnt take up boxing really.
Is that your chat up lines At? 'You ever heard of the Cobra Froch?' 'Nah' 'Well i got the cobra cawk!' . You got any Chris Eubank ones we can use?.
