I couldn’t put it better than some of the posters above... He should be embarrassed by his comments they were too far and really uncalled for. I highly doubt he cares though. I didn’t really like groves early in his career but I have development a whole new level of respect for groves over the last year after what happened to his opponent. It’s clearly effected him and has always remained very respectful.
I weighed it up for a while before posting, Len. I wanted to believe it was genuine concern. It was addressed in the Groves IFL interview and I thought that would be it...then he tweets Groves earlier a clip of Tyson Fury very upset by the damage Blackwell suffered. It was in very poor taste and played on people’s emotions imo for the benefit of attempting to give his son the psychological upper hand. I’m disgusted with him. He only had to watch that IFL clip to know that his comments were not welcome by Groves yet he does it again. If it was genuine, he’d have referenced both fighters. His son goes through the very same danger as others when he climbs in the ring. Yet, his concern is portrayed one-way, and that’s the damage his son can inflict. The arrogance is unreal.
What do people on here think Eubank Snr's reaction would have been if George had done the same thing and talked about putting Jnr in the same state as Gutknecht. I think we all know he would try and take the moral high ground. I used to take Eubank Snr with a pinch of salt. And with this I hope his son gets humiliated against Groves and sparked clean out.
agree Twenty (so strange referring to you as just Twenty !!) he can put up whatever front he wants but for me his mask has slipped with his actions. Regardless who Eubank fihgts in the future I will never fork out for his fights and certainly never buy a ticket. I hope the rest of the boxing world follows suit and guys with this kinda attitude no longer get the paydays they think this sorta thing creates
This! I didn’t used to like Groves, but I think he’s grown up tons. His reaction to Senior’s comments were composed and articulate. Like you say, there would have been uproar if it was the other way round. Can’t help but feel for Blackwell and his family, too. Used as a threat by someone who should know better. On a separate note, you can see how much Groves has been effected by Gutknecht’s injuries. He talked in his interview with the Guardian about looking to the referee has he was hitting Chudinov with them big shots, hoping he wouldn’t have to keep punching him.
Well he is playing with fire. If he gets the officials...particularly the ref obviously....all revved up about "safety", then it could backfire on him. It's a double edged sword. Junior could be the one the ref dives in to "save"!!!
The Eubanks could very well be ruthless enough to to play mind games about brain damage if they think it will upset groves and give them an edge in the fight Both boxers here have damaged opponents. Which one do ye think is more upset about having done so? Not cej for me. If you ask me he is ....as his father portrays him...a ruthless killer. CEJ would do it again in a heartbeat.... he is not riven by guilt or self doubt. Groves is no angel either, but he is at least a bit upset about gutkneckt (or whatever the poor guy's name is that he maimed).
Never taken to groves myself either until the chudinov fight I was genuinely off my ass in the house shouting for him before he stopped him and was chuffed to bits. I also liked it when Froch stood up to applaud him he deserved it. When the ref stepped in I let out a huge yass! Very rarely do I get that excited during a fight. The Mrs said she thought I was watching a Rangers v celtic game hahahhahaha.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4764456/Chris-Eubank-s-furious-wife-takes-gloves-off.html absolute weapon of a man.....cannot wait for Jr to bin him off and let him go bankrupt I am no fan of Groves but will love it if he he sends the Eubank circus back down the ladder...
How, then, does she explain Eubank’s boast of an IQ of 190? The answer is depressingly simple. ‘Someone told him that a while back, probably as a joke. He was never tested, but it would make him smarter than Stephen Hawking. Lmfao.
Eubank does this before every fight, he did it before Yildrim fight and he's done it before in several interviews. I think the thing about Eubank Sr, is he lacks self-awareness, he doesn't know how he comes across sometimes until maybe after the fact. He wants you to believe his comments come from a place of concern, but the trouble is no one is buying it, the majority of people see it as transparent, and that he has ulterior motives. Eubank has spent his entire professional career and beyond "acting", and his act is now a part of him, so you get this peculiar double speak all the time where I don't think even he is consciously aware of his motives. He will convince himself, and to the world, that he is "right" to be shedding light on the dangers of boxing, and he'll put forward a case that on the face of it could sound quite compelling. The trouble is he will never admit, maybe even to himself, that there might be ulterior motives behind what he says. To be honest, I just take everything he says with a pinch of salt, he's a fascinating guy but not in the way he thinks he is. I don't actually think he is a bad guy, a guy who is constantly trying to be good cannot be bad, he's just not on the pedestal that he puts himself on, because a lot of the time it is a façade. He's a pseudo-philosopher, a pseudo-poet and a pseudo-intellectual. But once you stop taking him seriously, he's actually one of the finest unintentional comedians this country has ever produced.
