Nunn, whilst still an excellent fighter at Supermiddle had dropped some from his middleweight days. So how's he go, up against a sturdy, solid guy in Chris Eubank? Nunn s WBA title v Eubank s WBO?
Outclasses him. Eubank went life and death with one top guy (Nigel Benn), and his style (slugger/swarmer) was perfect for Chris. Chris never had any intention of fighting the best in his prime. Now look at who Nunn fought in his prime, and how well he did... Nunn is in a different class to both men.
I'll go with that, one thing I'll say in defense of Eubank, is that he could rise to the occasion if needed be. Up against Nunn, he'd have to put in a good performance and give it his best shot. I do think he's going to lose here but maybe not a total whitewash.
I am one of the few Eubank fans on the forum, and frequently pick him in fights where no one else does....I don’t see him beating Nunn and not because of being outclassed or “levels” type thing, but rather style. I think Eubank would struggle with Nunn much in the manner of Toney...the question is can Eubank stop him like Toney did...I see it as possible but not the most likely scenario...I will take Nunn in a UD
Eubank wa smart and said he wanted zero part of Nunn ... no interest in fighting a 6'2" southpaw with that skill set ...
Two true slicksters here. Nunn is all wrong for Eubank though stylistically and wins a 12-round staring contest.
However, Benn would've blown Nunn out in 89/90. 3-6 rounds with Benn at his most ferocious is too many rounds for a guardless Michael to escape. And I feel Nunn was the best I've seen pretty much.
Nunn was definitely not as great moving up. Not sure how much the Toney ko affected him as well. He wasn't as dominant at s middle, that's for sure. Still think he had enough to beat Chris though.
That's a toughi for me, Benn v Nunn at middle. Benn was ferocious at that weight but reckless to. By the time he'd moved up, Nigel had calmed down but still had that dangerous right hand. Shame we didn't see Benn against Nunn at super, think it could have had a surprising ending.
Thing is, wild young Benn had such natural punching leverages that he could knock you out on the way down from being knocked out himself! Never see his like again, it wasn't pretty but man he was something to behold. Nunn was breathtakingly good in the 80s but did leave his chin out. As for Eubank, never saw anyone glide around the ring quite like that when he was lighter (came in at 160 against Benn in first fight and he says 183 in second).
Benn has nothing more than a (slim) punchers chance against the MW Nunn, 9 times out of 10 Nunn would make what Watson did to Benn look routine.
Nunn would stand with his gloves cupped to his forehead for 6 rounds as Benn wildly swings at his arms? Umm, makes no sense
I know exactly what you mean, I remember the Benn Logan fight. My lord, that was insane! Benn was practically being hammered left to right and was all over the place, when he swung at Logan.. And he was gone!
