Eubank Sr: Canelo is #1 P4P! Collins toughest man in history!

Collins was going to fight Calzaghe but in preparation for the fight Collins
collapsed during a sparring session with Howard Eastman.
He then wisely retired.

 

If Collins wS active today he would be the man actively seeking to fight Golovkin.....not avoid him like all the others down the years.

 

Eubanks just makes me cringe.

Lets be completely honest , he was just an OK fighter that beat Benn by getting under his skin then lost 23 1/2 rounds against Watson.

Put him in against Nunn , Jones Junior , Barkley , Toney and he gets battered.

 

Benn, Eubank, Watson, Collins, McClellan....

All were absolute warriors during a golden age of boxing I was lucky enough to be able to watch at the time.

I think it is massivey unfair to pitch one above another.

Yeah and what he conveniently forgets is Benn was jobbed against Eubank in the second fight.

Well played, you talk down at people like you are some kind of authority on this forum, but your true colours always surface in the end.

 

Eubank was a great fighter and to me arguably as tough as Collins. Whilst not as technically gifted (and Eubank is the first to admit this) his heart, chin and power more than made up for his shortcomings. Granted he had some decisions go his way but he was also in some absolute wars against top fighters. He might not have the best names on his record but it is certainly far from the worst. He went to fight Collins (twice) in Ireland first time on St. Patricks day. He also fought Benn twice, Calzaghe, Michael Watson twice and Carl Thompson twice. Amongst this he managed to stay undefeated in 43 by grinding out victories in fights which he had little motivation for. I think his resume is great. He was also showman and entertainer and has given fight fans some unbelievable nights of Boxing. You don't have to like Chris Eubank as a person but you would be a fool to disrespect him as a fighter. Prime Eubank was an absolute beast who could have been a match for most SMW's of the time.

 

I have all the time in the world for Eubank. However Collins sacrificed more than him. He gave up a grand safe permanent pensionable job in the middle of a major recession and went to the USA. There he actively sought sparring with marvin hagler. He fought elite opponents ...kalambay, Johnson, mccallum...there's no comparison between these guys and Eubanks opponents. Collins gave all these guys close fights. Ask any one of them today and they will confirm just how hard he was to fight. Kalambay Johnson and mccallum were absolute elite. Superb boxers. Cream of the crop. The best of the best. It's no fluke benn and Eubank never fought these guys.
Look at how easily Mike McCollum dismantled poor Michael Watson, and Watson was arguably better and tougher than both Benn and Eubank.

 

Kids coming to school without their homework done come up with better stories than that...!
