Much like Arum kept Eubank away from Nunn and Toney (his words).

    No fault of Chris

In the Eubank-Sherry fight programme, Chris mentions wanting to unify all four titles and doing what no other British fighter has done before against the Americans.

    So what?

He’d tried to fight the reigning champs at SMW.

When those fights couldn’t be made, he moved up to target the LHW champs.

You’ve just told me that Collins beat Eubank 11-1 in their rematch.

So why would Roy have pursued Eubank at that point, when he’d gotten the opportunity to fight for a LHW belt?

Eubank said a lot of things.

He also said that he never chased down the big U.S. fighters, as he was content to just defend his WBO title.

Signing that Sky deal where he fought guys like Schommer, Amarillo and Close etc, never put him in the position where he could have obtained all of the major belts.

The Watson fight may have changed his mindset.

Yes. And his principle regarding US TV/Bob Arum not wanting to show his fights/match him with the guys. It was like '**** them then, I'll make more money than everyone and stand tall'

Exactly. He avoided him (as it was too risky).

He was 'content' to not go out of his way to fight the biggest risks until his last fights, he was the World Champion so he didn't have to go chasing anyone. Bizarre word to use, I don't think you're 'content' dealing with all that unimaginable pressure and doing things the hard way. Had he been allowed to go the easier route, the glory route and just fight the very best straight away every time (wasn't remotely possible as Arum wouldn't allow him) and retire very early with much, much less money and attention, I don't think that would've been 'contented' either because he wanted a certain standard of living for himself, and fell in love with being in the public eye tbh.

As Mr Livingstone Eubank Sr said, 'Once you get that big house and that nice car, you can't just stop. The next stage is a twin Tudor mansion and a bigger garden.

'A dozen £1000 suits and 10 £500 pairs of shoes are wonderful, but next you want to get out of those suits and into £10,000 clothing. Then you want to pioneer your own fashion.

'One shopping trip to Manhattan is one thing, but 10 or 12 of them a year by concorde is another. Then there's the custom made Aston Martin classic, the cream of capitalism, ingrained Simply the Best in italic.

'Once you start acquiring, you can't stop.'

Toney has elite skill and IQ - but to state he is the greatest ever is a little bit a of a stretch when he had a lazy work ethic. Toney was outclassed by Tiberi because he was lazy in camp. To be the greatest ever you gotta be great in all areas - including your work outside of the ring.

    He didn’t avoid him.

He took a title shot opportunity at a new weight.

I’m not for a second playing down how hard it is to be fighter. But Eubank was fulfilled defending his WBO belt on his Sky contract.

Well not really because he lost the World Title during it, meaning no Benn and Jones fights to finish. He was fulfilled getting the shots against Calzaghe and Cruiser Carl

It was hard being a fighter, sure, it was 10x harder being Chris Eubank. The press were NEVER off his back, and he never had a break from training because there were always three fights lined up in advance!
