I feel Groves was better than any of Sr`s opponents, I feel Saunders vs Collins and Watson would have been close fights, does anyone agree? How would Nigel Benn fare against Jr`s Top 5 opponents? (I feel Jr has only fought two good fighters, but anyway) Calzaghe wasn`t at his best vs Chris but I still feel he was better than all Sr`s other foes in their `97 clash and he would have done better against Saunders than Jr did except Saunders jab was better than Joe`s was against Sr, Calzaghe went on to become something special, Sr was just a foot note as far as I`m concerned.
there is no competition here, Snrs is better. in fact, with suitable motivation Eubank Snr could have come back and take the most of the same scalps that eubank jnr has (though it would be touch and go).
I would rate Rocky, Nigel Bennder, Countyman Collins and Cowarzaghe above Groves or at least on par. Certainly our Nige was above him in ability and acheivements and he'd have torn Groves head off, and would have beaten the others comfortably. Jnrs resume is, without Groves, a national level one, euro at best, and he was lucky to be in the tournie that tough Northerner Callum won. Jnr was probably only in the tournament because of his name.
Name me one fight where Benn dealt with a jab as good as the jabs Saunders and Groves used to outscore Jr and isn`t Groves KO percentage better than Benn`s was at super middle?
I think the only thing you got right hee is when you state that Calzaghe was better than Groves, the only reason I picked Groves over ALL Sr`s foes is because Joe hadn`t peaked at the time he spanked Chris and was pretty green in their fight.
i was talking about his wins, not where he was easily outclassed exposed as national level - personally I'd not count them as evidence of resume class.
I knew this was coming and I agree, I just fel Saunders and Groves were too much for Sr and wanted to go a subtle way around it, sorry, Top 2 would have been laughed at.
i agree that Benn was less of a ko artist at SMW, but still more formidable than Groves, who has failed at the elite level many times.
When you say formidable do you mean punched harder, because the only punch he threew at super middle that could Groves power shots was te one he knocked Sherry out with, he was not a one punch KO artist at all at super middle, his punch wasn`t formidable at that weight, unles you were talking about his formidale spririt againt G-man, problem was G-man had nowhere near the defensive skill and savvy that Groves has or the jab for that matter.
