Eubank was as cool as ice though and landed some amazing shots from rounds 2-4 or so; Collins unbreakable and even unblinkable! Thought Eubank played matador to the Collins bull so well in about the sixth. The second half of the fight was truly awful.
How do you think Reid lost to Calzaghe? Ask yourself this. How could you not score rounds 2, 3, 4,7, 8 ( This content is protected ), 12 to Calzaghe? Remember Reid had a point deducted also. I thought like 2 judges that Calzaghe was a clear winner and except for McCrory who scored a draw while sitting in a pro Reid crowd ringside, all of the other studio guest scored wide for Calzaghe including Mcguigan and Eubank. I also think damaged handed (damaged his hand in round 4) Calzaghe won and felt he won rounds 1, 9 (Reid did land the punch of the night in round 9 though) & 11. Good away win for Calzaghe Where there were issues before the fight Reid wouldnt fight Calzaghe when he was champ
Collins is out of retirement.... what about Eubank Jr against collins? I'd tune in. Two warriors. one ring. etc.
Good reasoning and argument... atsch The fact is,Collins beat them both twice. 4-0. He proved himself better by giving them both a re-match and completing the job again. Collins was number one, closely followed by Eubank and Benn comes in third place. Try not to put your bias above logic and truth please.
Benn turned his ankle in the first fight and his corner pulled him out in the second. It was inconclusive because Benn was getting shots off in both fights, getting home bangers, and making Collins miss a lot... they were 50/50 fights up until the injury in first and disgraceful Benn cornerwork in second. Eubank clearly beat Collins in the first fight, and would've mathematically with the right rules being used by the ref in scoring KD's for and against. Steve gets credit in that period for the second Eubank fight, somehow managing to win with the worst technique and most obscene tactics even seen in a boxing ring! He knew he couldn't stand with Eubank skill-for-skill - he wasn't in Eubank's class. Steve's best performances, by far, were in 1992 actually. Running Reggie Johnson (as slick as a greaseball back then, and beat Toney) and Sumbu Kalambay (schooled McCallum!) very close, arguably winning both fights. He was much better then than he was at the end of his career. He showed a great short, sneaky counter overarm right against Reggie, and very sharp combinations against Sumbu. In '93 on Eubank and Benn undercards he looked like a sharp counter-puncher with quick reflexes - seriously! He out-boxed and stopped razor-sharp Chris Pyatt. He struggled with Carr and Brown and was sent head over heels by some nobody in his last fight. That period wasn't Steve Collins at his best. That marauding warrior with the added muscle and bulk, looked garbage!
LOL! Dream on-"he wasn't in Eubanks class,Eubank beat him blah blah...disgraceful corner tactics in Benns 2nd fight..."' What a load of rubbish. Benn sprained his ankle in the 1st,granted, but was systematically taken apart by Collins in the 2nd. I remember feeling scared he was going to get hurt badly in that fight due to the relentless crashing belts to the head Collins was giving him from the 4th round onwards. Benn could not intimidate him so retired before he was ko'd. It was his decision to retire, not his corners. In Collins last fight he was caught by a good lucky punch within 12 seconds but rolled over on the floor and got straight up to continue, quickly despatching his opponent. A true champ, its a shame he and Calzaghe never fought. It would have been a brilliant fight. It was a fantastic time in the super middles to see such talented hard *******s battling it out, great days indeed.:happy
Collins fought a shell of nigel benn in 1996. Any idiot should know that..he was finished after the mclellan fight. If this fight had taken place before 1995 it would have been very very different, instead of collins beating up a shot to pieces version of nigel benn. It was obvious collins was going to win easily.
Now now, silly boy,Benn had already been stopped twice before. Eubank had stopped him in 1990 and Michael watson had done the same a year before. Was he a shell of a fighter then? Yawn. Benn was a great battler but when he couldn't put a fighter away he cracked. Collins was too tough for him,not once but twice.
I think Collins got both Benn and Eubank at the right time. That's not discrediting Steve, you can only beat whats on front of you, and he did, 4-0. Benn was finished after G-Man, physically the fire wasn't there anymore, and Eubank, who should(arguably did) have won at least 1 of the 2 Collins fights. He just didn't have it in him to finish fighters anymore after Watson. I see people calling Eubank lazy, I don't think that, I just think after Wayson he did the bare minimum to get the win, trying not to injure anyone. Was evident v Collins and especially the Thompson fights. I genuinely think that the Benn who bashed up Barklay, beats Collins. Eubank was also better, but Collins maybe mentally had his number. I like Collins, squeezed every ounce out of the ability he had
Dear oh dear... The watson fight...benn had knocked out every single opponent and thought he could do the same with watson...punched himself out and got ko`d by a jab in the end. Wasnt hurt, just exhausted. Got counted out on one knee looking at the ref. Watch the fight again... Eubank, was a war...could have went either way...eubanks chin saved him in that fight, in the rematch benn clearly won and was deducted a point and robbed of victory. Benn v collins weren't even competitive. It was man v punchbag. Remember, when collins finally got to benn, he had just been beaten up by sugar boy malinga!!
