Both are great counter punchers, but I see Eubank on the defensive, Toney on the attack. I see Toney landing more and winning a clear decision.
MW Eubank of 90-91 vs MW Toney of 91-92 This would have been a ****ing stormer of a fight. I'd back Toney's skills to see him edge a tight decision after a war. SMW Eubank of post-Watson era vs SMW Toney of 93-94 This would not have been such a close or exciting fight. Toney rather easily.
Eubank had an extremely good stiff jab (that he originally learned from Ludwig Lightburn in some Bronx gym as a youngster). Toney's shoulder-rolling style was excellent at slipping/deflecting right hands and catching/parrying range-finding jabs, but Eubank used his jab as an untelegraphed weapon from an awkward angle. I think Chris would've ground him down with the jab he showed at super-middle. James always struggled with speed and movement. Eubank had very quick feet (see Benn I) on the back foot and was very fast out of the pocket (see Watson I) on the front foot. Eubank dec either weight
:deal I see Eubank's style frustrating Toney, using his speed and taking advantage of Toney taking 2 minutes off during eachh round being the deciding factors. Eubank 116-112!
This would have been a hell of a scrap ..Tough to pick a winner ..Each guy brings so much to the table ..
He beat Malinga, Essett, Thornton and Holmes almost exclusively with a double-jab that was sharp and nearly impossible to read due to no motion being wasted and elbow pointing outward, stepping in if he had to shifting his weight efficiently. He swelled Wharton's eye with it in the 2nd round. And throwing it singularly dropped Dan Sherry with it in the 1st round. It was damaging. Not much 'coiling'.
