What If Alan Minter came around the same time as the Middleweight/Super middle early 90 s Britpack? Could he have defeated them all or is that a no?
My personal opinion is that Minter is underrated. I honestly think he beats all three. Probably not a popular sentiment though
Cuts aside Minter had the skills, speed, combination punching, decent power, grit and stamina to outpoint all 3. Wouldn´t be surprised if he stopped Benn late on. This content is protected
i don't like his chances vs eubank. that's a bad matchup. benn and watson are close, i might favor both tbh, but not by much. he's always gonna get cut up vs watson and benn is benn, that's the one he's best suited for tho.
I think Minter loses to them all. Watson was a sublime fighter with a wonderful engine, Eubank is teak tough and simply found ways to break opponents hearts and heads. He has most of a chance against my favourite fighter, Nigel Benn, but maybe loses two out of three in a trilogy...
a Froch kind of fighter, now there's a Fight... as too the thread, I don't know, certainly a few interest scraps forsure, and always a hope & a bet for anyone to beat Eubank and Collins, both an unlikable pair.
Hi Buddy. A bold statement, very few have gone for that outcome, I went to Vegas to see Minter win his world title, and attended many of his fights prior to that, so very fond of him as a fighter, not sure I would pick him over these three confidently tho, if he didnt cut against Benn, then he might outlast Nigel over the old 15 rounders, I see both Watson and Eubank being much sterner tests, no cuts I can envisage a points defeat to both, but I wouldnt bet on that outcome, and I liked a bet back in the day. stay safe MM, chat soon. Interesting. Watson and him are similar could go either way .I think Eubank would come from behind and stop him .Benn who lands first in a war
Minter beats all 3 as follows. Benn quits after 10 rounds. Nigel starts off fast throwing wild slashing shots but Alan headlock him and ties him up and has benns dreadlocks flying all over the place as he out jabs him all night. It is a bit like the 2nd Malinga fight Watson is outpointed 7 rounds to 5. Minter leads all night and smartly outboxes him. Eubank is simply outworked 8 rounds to 4. Oddly I dont see Alan's skin problems flaring up against these 3.
I get the impression Eubank is getting a little overrated here. I was a big fan of his, good boxer, one of the best chins I have ever seen. Underrated power and a never give up attitude. Eubank Snr was superb against come forward punchers, check out how he dismantled Denys Cronin early in his career and his superlative 1st fight with Benn. Thing is Minter is not a face first brawler, he is a cracking boxer with fast hands. These fighters give Eubank real problems. Against the unheralded (and fragile chinned) Canadian Dan Sherry he was very lucky to get a 10 round technical split decision. Sometimes during that fight he looked lost against a fighter with no real wins and would get destroyed by Benn and then Doug DeWitt! He won an atrocious split-decision over Watson in their 1st fight, struggled with chinny (though talented) light-middle Gary Stretch in the early rounds before finding his china chin in the 6th. Even at super-middle he struggled with Ray Close twice, Sugar Boy Malinga, Mauricio Amaral, Dan Schommer. An argument (especially Schommer and Close fights) for Eubank getting lucky decisions. Incidently Schommer was a light punching southpaw and Eubank said after his career (according to Boxrec): In his opinion, he was both outboxed and embarrassed, as well as having had a tooth knocked out of his mouth, in this fight with Dan Schommer. He goes on to say that he felt Schommer was "robbed" of the victory & that he may've been given the decision based upon his aggression and possibly due to the fact that a Eubank victory was seen by some people to be better for boxing business. None of the boxer types were anywhere near to Minter´s pedigree. Styles make fights and Minters was a fast handed southpaw, good chin and terrific stamina. Eubank would no doubt rise to the occasion and land some good shots but with the exception of cuts would be outworked and outpointed. This content is protected This content is protected
