It's hard to watch this fight knowing what happens at the end. I think for a long time this fight was never shown, was it Watson who eventually said for it to be replayed?
Why is it the second fight. Because the first one was a controversial draw. Yeah ESPN classics have been playiong Eubank and Benn last week if you are from the UK.
No but you can pay & download it from Chris Eubanks website & he & Watson split the money. They both came to an agreement that people should see it as it was, arguably, the best performance of both their careers.
I heard that. My memory might be a bit sketchy here but did eubank knock him out in the final round because he was behind all three scorecards.
Yup Eubank is almost down & out in the eleventh but then unleashes the uppercut from hell right at the bell. Watson makes it back to his corner but the damage is done. He comes out for the last round & Eubank pummels him until the ref steps in. It's pretty hard to watch knowing what happens plus theres no way Watson should have been allowed out for that last round. He wont walk forward to touch gloves & he took more unnecesarry punishment.
I've seen Watson - Eubank II before and how Watson is allowed to fight on after that 11th round I'll never know. He gets hit with a thunderous shot from Eubank which would have been bad enough, but then his head hit the rope which caused the brain injury. Watson then wobbles out for the 12th round, can barely stand, can't even touch gloves with Eubank and is totally gone.......his corner then had the cheek to complain when the fight was stopped, idiots.
In irnside the fight should have been stopped. After this fight Eubank was not the same fighter unfortunately, a bit like benn after the MClennan fight. It his unfortunate that the two fighters who gave us the most excitement in the 1990's with their thrilling duels ended being in the ring when the most unfortunate thing happened.
It was the first fight....... Michael Watson in my opinion should of won the first fight....he was also out boxing and beating Chris Eubank in the second fight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvh9-xr0gOQ
Very true MR Kool, I mean eubank draws have all been controversial benn 2 at Old trafford. Juts wondering MR Kool are U a liverpool or everton fan.
I was always a massive Eubank fan but couldn't believe Eubank got away with a draw in that first one, he lost it clearly. The 2nd fight he was getting owned even worse until Watson lost concentration after knocking Eubank down. I got the feeling Watson thought the fight was over once Eubank hit the canvas and relaxed for the first time in the fight....we all saw what happened next, tragic.
Even then, after that knockdown and Watson taking more shots in the 12th before the fight was stopped, Watson could've been in a hell of a lot better condition today...maybe a little punchy, but physically capable. But the post-match medical care was shocking. Late and inept. They took forever to even get him to hospital...didn't they even take him to the wrong one first? It's that even more than Eubanks blows that really screwed Watson up, and it was horrifying. So glad this led to ringside doctors and an immediate medical check-up being a staple at ringside in future fights.
I think it's too easy to say now that he should never have been allowed out for the last round. I've seen boxers in worse visible states fight on.
I thought Michael won first time around too and he was really giving eubank a hiding in the rematch. Fair play to Chris for pulling it out mind, the corner should have stopped it., but it's easy after the event ot say that, of course.
