Dont ignore Mike Watson... he was the third man on the scene at the time but he was as good as either of em. He just wasnt as eccentric as Chris or as menacing as Nigel.
i actually like benn more then eubank... but find eubank fascinating in character. Benn is very striking... the dark destroyer. this is just awsome.... you can always find something new to love in boxing, a shame it was in the past, but oh well.
people in the uk tuned in to the tv in droves to watch eubank hoping he would lose. but he used to get 12 to 17 million uk viewers per fight .
is he still a figure there? as in... when he goes around is he still respected? maybe not like hatton but kinda?
He still has a public profile, but kind of like Frank Bruno does. People like him because he was much more of a character than Hatton, Calzaghe or Khan.
He is still instantly recognizable. He isnt on tv or in the mainstream media anymore though, he did have a Osbournes type show on channel 5 a coupla years back, he's bankrupt now i beleive...
he is seen as a charasmatic fruit cake always worthy of an interview. he is not seen around boxing fights , but more of a public figure/celebrity. he was not a uk boxing icon. think more like a uk hopkins persona.
Yeah his profile these days is mostly getting arrested for driving his rig round parliament square protesting about some war or other!
Eubank and Benn did a gladiator program together only a few years back and they ended up having to be dragged apart. Eubank's also been in the news for arguments with Naseem, he was in a Nassem documentary visiting him as a friend as well and now he gets arrested for parking his truck illegally or protesting with it....
