Thats his biggest problem to overcome the footwork. Its why he couldnt get going against bjs for 6 rounds. Hes easy to hit because he hardly uses the jab. Or its not his prefered weapon of choice anyway. You ve got to fancy the guys with the better fundamentals to do a number on him. Groves for example how does eubank get passed the jab. It ll be interesting anyway. Because they ve kind of built him as a fighter a bit differently to most. Quite a unique style but again so was the dads as well. But pretty sure the jab was used a good bit more.

Can see a rerun of the bjs fight where he struggles for 6 before coming into it when the opponent tires and struggles to keep the distance.

Well everyone sees these things differently but for me personally someone like GGG or Kovelav i would class as having devastating power, someone like Keith Thurman i would class as having good power and someone like Paulie is without doubt feather fisted. Eubank Jr is clearly not feather fisted to that extent, but he has yet to show me what i'd call good power, so i'd class it as decent.

He's never been known for his power. That was always something they said would "come as he progressed", and it hasn't. But he's dangerous enough because he lands a lot of punches. Sometimes it's the guys with LESS power who do the most damage because they administer longer beaters. The power punchers often make it quick and relatively painless.

He's a decent fighter, not world class, but is formidable enough at British level and against journeyman types.
In the mind of his father he's an all-time great of course.

His Dad spoke about people playing down Jnr's power with Kugan around Christmas time. He mentioned that he has had hand issues and about the amount of padding Junior wears to protect his hands, when ITV were showing his dressing room his padding was the biggest I've ever seen on a boxer, to the point it looked a bit silly. Floyd used to have a huge knuckle pad because of his cronic hand problems but Juniors was another level.

I think there's a weird balance with Juniors power, his team (dad) massively over rate and make him sound like an absolute 1 punch monster, whereas a lot on forums/twitter make him out to be feather fisted... I think he has enough power to trouble the champs at super middle, don't think he has the power to worry GGG.

I'm not a Jr fan so don't think I'm here defending him, I personally don't think he punches as hard as some say.

But somebody was telling about the gloves he insists on wearing, I can't remember the make they are but apparently they are like wearing pillows and the way his hand wraps are done are also questioned.

There is a suggestion he suffers from hand trouble. Could all be bs, I've not really looked in to it or asked many questions so maybe one of you knowledgeable lot can enlighten me.

I think the problem is that all the previous nonsense that's come out of that camp makes this hard to believe too

It's actually an arm problem not hand. He has a chronic issue with hyper-extension, which is why he uses lots of shorter punches like uppercuts and hooks.

I would guess it affects his power considerably not being able to get full extension without risking serious injury.

If we're strictly evaluating his power, it doesn't really matter what the causes the lack of power.
I guess a significant percentage of "average" and "light" hitters have some sort of hand, shoulder or arm issues. It's unlikely to change any time soon, as his style is obvious based on being a volume puncher now, rather than using pure one-punch power.

Calzaghe had to change his style considerably once he started developing hand issues, unfortunately I don't think Eubank is half the fighter and may not get away with a lot of things that Joe did if he does decide to become like volume puncher like Joe did.

There's no subtlety in his work either which might explain things. When does an opponent not know he's punching.
He doesn't throw many counters and when starts sending these massive volumes of punches the default position for the guy he's facing his chin down hands up and brace for impact. The shots you aren't ready for are the ones that hurt. CEJ's opponents know they are coming and take appropriate measure. He's an average puncher with good volume and accuracy n the main. I still think anyone with good footwork and above average power will beat him.

To put things in perspective....about his average power. Golovkin landed 292 times on murray to eubank landing 298 on blackwell.

Lets not kid on golovkins an absolute power machine whereas eubanks completely feather fisted. Or hes hitting guys four times as many as golovkin is. Eubank has good power. Its just that guys even at british level can take a good beating. The reason hes not ko-ing guys clean is mainly because of his style. Hes disguising his shots thats why hes landing good percentages in terms of landing. But the drawback is hes not getting fully behind them because of it. Doesnt mean their not effective and not damaging shots though.

I d like to see how anyone eubank hits with these shots continually....comes back after it. I dont think many who,ve took the beatings have really went on to anything after so far. Hence the reason spikes team threw the towel in before they really began. These shots will finish careers.

I don't think that's a good comparison. For one, we know how tough Murray is at world level whereas Blackwell has never been in with a proper puncher. Also, didn't Murray himself stop Blackwell? It was early on though so maybe I'm reading too much into it. the shots that GGG put Murray down with were single shots too, whereas other than Tom Doran I don't recall Jr managing to really do that with anyone. I just feel like after the Chudinov fight, the Quinlan fight, the Blackwell fight, the Spike fight and in a way the Saunders fight we keep saying "well, these guys must all be real tough is Jr couldn't put them down" whereas he's the common denominator.

Spike's team stopped the fight because he had a burst ear drum, he's due back out soon I believe. Chudinov has been rebuilding in Europe but he wasn't anything beyond Euro level at best anyway.

Will finish careers of domestic level opponents maybe. He's a tuff fight for anyone at that level. But look at someone who is a genuine big hitter but maybe a similar skill level like David Lemiux - he was leaving guys almost spark out. Eubank is forcing guys on to the back foot predominantly with volume - he isn't feather fisted but until he steps up we won't know how hard he truly hits - at the moment no better than average and he's only fought one quality opponent.

Against better operators he won't get the chance to push people back with 10 punches combos people will start timing him and countering him

Even checking golovkins stats against stevens and lemiuex we re still talking about over 250 punches landed. I m in agreement that these guys are better than the guys eubanks fighting. But it does show that even golovkins working to get guys out of there some of the time. And hes do1wn as one of the hardest punchers in the game.

Even your saying spike...bursting his ear drum. Its actually another indication that eubanks isnt just an average or feather fisted fighter. When you also take into account that he put blackwell in a coma sadly.

All the guys you listed eubank stopped. Burst ones ear drum. Another in a coma. Chudinov was pretty much wrecked. Quinlan was eubanks first move up in weight...the power usually always suffers yet still hurt him numerous times. Billy joe saunders was hurt by eubanks i m sure and bjs,s is a pretty solid fighter plus he used his ability to stop eubank hitting him nearly as cleanly...but bjs is a world title holder afterall.

If we re talking one punch knockouts. Fair enough but the thread title is eubanks power is not much better than average.

No ones saying hes a young mike tyson. But eubanks has good power hes a very good accumulation puncher. But so are most of the guys listed as having good power.

Again its a style thing thats leading him to not cleaning out more of his opponents hes trading off. landing in numbers as opposed to landing less....with more force by disguising his shots. There still landing effectively though taking their toll. The dad was also good at it.
