Can anyone provide me any information about this fighter Eugene Hairston. I know he fought Lamotta twice, but that is all i know. Also is his second fight with Lamotta good?
He was a damn good fighter and responsible for an innovation in the sport. He was deaf (his nic name was "Silent" Hairston), so the NY State Boxing commission installed the red lights on all the ring posts so he'd know when the round was over. Every place adopted it after that.
Ok, thanks for the info. Yeah i had heard the lights were implimented for the hearing impaired but never knew who was the first.
Knew he was deaf, I did wonder how he knew the round was over though. I thought maybe he handlers threw a pebble at him at the 2:59 mark.
