right troops i'm puting my neck on the line here....... i've had this crazy idea about a european championships for boxing, (like the football) qualifiers, group stages, quarters, semi's, finals the whole hog....... for each weight division, this could end all the............ who's the best ?....... who's duckin and dodgin who? .......... and every boxer gets a fair crack at the whip, even the underdogs would be given the incentive to spring a few surprises.

am not sayin fight every week, which would'nt be allowed to happen anyway........ obviously...... but you could have it over the course of a year or two and it would bring boxing right back in to public interest...... we could even have it like the contender and just have 4 rounds or 6 rounds and maybe an 8 round final.

i quite like the idea of supporting my country's pro boxers at a euro championships, live on the telly.

so let me know what you guys think............. and please be gentle.lol:bbb:soccergr:

a pro version of the amateur euro championships?

if you had it over the course of a year or two, you'd lose public interest anyway (i take it you are trying to attract new boxing fans).

having a euro version of The Contender could work, with say 2 boxers from every main boxing country (e.g. UK, ireland, germany, russia, italy, spain etc)

then it would only last 8 weeks or so and retain the interest of the public

yeah sumthin like a pro version of the amatuers........god only knows if it would work............. thought it might kick start a wee debate thats all........ just when i read a previous post bout the public not knowin who our pro's are.......... it would also generate local support in communities for ther own boxers:bbb

They have something like this in the States I do believe. Heavyweight tournaments over a relatively short period of time, with the winner getting a decent payout and some kind of bigger fight chance type of thing.
Your idea sounds good, but we would never get the match ups we wanted due to contractual agreements outside of the competition.
The people we would love to see in the mix (eg Amir Khan) would never be allowed to face a fighter that didn't meet with Frank Warren's approval.
I think up and coming fighters are too well protected and too worried about losing their unbeaten records to get stuck in.
    I like the idea though.

Yeah sopunds a good enough idea to me but as you said would never happen as our fighters are too over protected. why do our fighters have this thing about there unbeaten record though? look at the mexicans? they through them in at a very early age age if they are good enough and sometimes they come up just short but they learn from it. did it do MAB or eric morales any harm losing a fight or 2? no they learned from it and came back much better fighters maybe our young guys need that sort of experience of losing and learning from it too many lose later on in there careers and never know how to come back from it maybe if they did lose early on they would have more bounce-back ability.

cheers.... the contractual agreements outside the ring could be for talkin sake, the league fights........ then maybe every four years (like the world cup) or even two years we could have sumthin like this..... i dunno but i think the sport needs a boost.... and sumthin to divert us away from mis-matches etc.......:good

Essentially it's a decent idea but what about things like fighters going through and then getting injured before a fight? How would you stop fighters taking other fights out there worth more money and exposure? It's a tricky one.

I see your point with the Mexicans, but using MAB and Morales as examples isn't great. MAB was a long reigning established beltholder when Junior Jones done him, while Morales was 41-0 and a two weight world champion when MAB handed him his first loss.

the french have a similar system. they have a demi-annual tourney. surprisingly good. and keeps the action flowing.

:verysad You do see where I'm coming from surely? Low risk- high reward opponents will always win the day for promoters and that's the way it's gonna stay.
