Cann't watch at the moment, could someone summarise, please?

In short, he turned the Burns fight down because the money on offer wasn't on par with what he'd expect to be paid for a world title fight, and financially not that much different than what he's getting paid to fight in Euro title fights. He's interested in fighting Burns as he's a good fighter and Rees feels they had some good spars, but the money has to be right.

And I can see his point there. Don't know what he was offered, but I can see why a former WBA 'World' Champion would feel he should be paid a certain amount. In all honesty though I'm much happier with Paulus Moses as Burns' opponent so...

I thought Frank would've offered him his highest ever payday :conf

  5. It's a world title at the end of the day, if he's confident of winning then he should take the shot. I don't reckon he is that confident of winning though, not after seeing how easily Burns handled Katsidis. Nothing wrong with that though. Rees can bide his time at Euro level at wait for a better offer.

    Cheers dude. :good

Aye, I'm happy with Moses as an opponent. Rees is like the forgotten man down at LW, even with the Euro belt. Rees-Mitchell should be made.

Moses' manager was complaining about Frank trying to get options on Moses' fights should he win. Perhaps Rees wasn't happy with the money and Frank having options on his fights in the future. (Is Rees still promoted by Matchroom? I imagine options would be a sticking point there.)

I think Moses is a good opponent, and it'll bring out the best in Burns in the same way Martinez and Katsidis did.

Aye, I'd like to see Mitchell fight Rees before either fights Burns, but I doubt Frank would go for that. I do think it benefits Rees to hold off on accepting the chance to fight Burns though. He mentioned his conditioning work in that video, and that we didn't really see how it paid off against Matthews as the fight ended early. I think a few more fights at 135lbs while he works on his conditioning might pay off for him really.

His conditioning really has been shocking, how he stayed vertical for the last half of the Murray fight is beyond me, he was ****ed. If Rees was to get in the ring with Burns in that sort of condition then he'd be getting stopped fairly easily.

He's saying all the right things these days in that respect. He's admitting his diet before was poor and now he's watching what he eats, when he eats, what fluids he drinks etc. Sounds like he's taking it seriously so if he can keep working on it it should hopefully pay off.

From my own point of view I'm like you - I want to see Mitchell/Rees. I think it'd be a good fight, and I do think it was a bit crap for both John Murray and Mitchell that he had to vacate the EBU title to fight Mitchell, only for the rules to then change in regards to challenging for the EBU titles when coming off a loss.

Frank wanted options too. Rees wasn't happy with that nor the money.

That's fair enough. He's the Euro champ so can afford to sit back and defend his title until a better offer comes along.

Maybe even the saviour himself can work some magic and get him a fight with DeMarco. :yep

  12. Yeah that could well be true also. Can't blame Rees for turning it down if that was the case.

Moses is a good opponent anyway. He should push Burns.

I dunno if I like this fight for him.

He needs to be 100% mentally, and he may need a ko to draw.

Most people on hear are looking at it form a fans point of view.

At the end of the day pro fighters fight for money so I dont think you can blame Rees for taking the better paid fight. He cant have to many years left in the game.

If he fought for the world title he would have to give up his Euro belt and if he lost against Burns then he would be without any belt.

No belt= no decent pay day.
