You've included Hopkins there, and I don't disagree, but a few years ago, would you have included Calzaghe in a list of the top 5 or 6 P4P? Probably not, and why not? When he was better than Hopkins is now.

Also before Lacy lost to Calzaghe he was rated higher than two other undefeated SMW champions, why? Because the other two were European? They had better records than Lacy, and now no one would dispute the fact that Kessler and calzaghe were better than Lacy, but because he is american he is automatically held in much higher esteem.

    1. American fight fans always use the expressions: Euro bum, Euro trash, Euro level, euro robots, boring european style etc.. So i think it is fair to compare Europe with USA
    2. The US has held more world titles because (as you said) england is the only european who truely have been into boxing through the time, half(or more) of europe was shut down from 1939-1989.
    3. top 50 p4p, again, the majority of the european continent wasnt able to compete in alot of time the last century.. Btw, who decides these p4p lists? and who decides the hall of famers? It is all opinions through
    4. European top class fighters?
Klitschko brothers, Mikkel kessler, Felix sturm, Thomas adamek, Denis Lebedev, Lucian Bute..

    It is an old saying..

"the one who holds the microphone..."

... and the US media dominates the planet.

I would add: Calzaghe, Froch, Abraham, Haye to the mix.

As of now, European fighters do not have a great track record when fighting prime American counterparts. Since the days of Schmelling/Louis, European fighters have been hyped up only to come over and get beaten by more athletic American fighters.

Slappy got a couple of notches on his belt fighting 40+ versions of Americans, but look at Hatton, Kessler, Abraham, etc.

Simply put, the American style requires a level of athleticism not often found in European fighters. If the entire world recognizes the American style of boxing as superior to the European style, it is safe to assume that an American fighter is better than a similarly ranked European.

There are plenty of examples of euros beating high profile yanks over the years, unknown honeygan stopping p4p no 3 curry in the states, benn annihilating barklely, mcclellan was in the ring top 10 when benn beat him, nunn losing to rocchigiani, griffen to michalczewski, hill losing to maske off the top of my head, im sure there are a lot more. Its just americans are so biased they only see one side of it and forget the rest. As well as that, most of the high profile fights end up in the states, automatically giving their fighters home advantages, not bad, if the situation was reversed so would a lot of decisions

At the end of the day its still america that hosts most of the big fights and thats where a lot of the money is, for that reason alone its important to make an impression by fighting in america, if only to get more fans and cash if you can. Some prefer the relative safety of fighting at home but for those willing to take the plunge and travel its very important to have a good team behind you, if you dont you will get shafted in the states, same as would happen in other countries too.

Also, there are only a handful of countries where boxing makes a spash in europe, which is a pity and thats the reason why a euro belt is seen as a fairly big step down from a world belt, apart from the heavier divisions which seem based in europe. Also because of the lack at the moment of big stars in the states, the sport is suffering, add mma into the equation and unless another floyd comes along soon and a very good US heavy, the sport could really suffer if pac calls it a day.

America is in rapid decline, the 20th century was the american century but they ve got their best days behind them already. They originally were a colony in the past and that is the fate that awaits in them in the future, too. Do not start threads comparing Europe to america, this in itself is an insult to Europe.

    DANG :lol::lol::lol::lol: HEAD SHOT

My take is that calzaghe is seen as a great fighter who just didn't take on the best available competition outside of Eubank..... Euorpean fighter do get credit though... when Ward beat Kessler, people said he was and is the best in the division.. why??... because he beat Kessler..... so Eurpoeans get respect... just not when they cherrypick and hide in their countries.. when the US is still the highest paid fight capital in the world... Look how well Pacman and Cotto and even the Klits have done here... would it hurt for Sturm/ Stieglitz/ Shumenov/ Javeck and others to fight here once???... Also... RJJ beat Clinton Woods.... and RJJ and Hopkins have beaten Americans/ Mexicans/ Canadians/ Puerto Ricans/ Jamaicans/ etc. ... they fight outside of their own people...

the klits? ...they barely leave europe

and yeah europe is a continent, but look at the size difference, apart from maybe Germany, Texas is bigger than any european country, England is the size of Oregon!

USA vs EU would be a fairer comparaison. CIA considers EU as a hybrid intergovernmental and supranational organization of 27 countries (sounds like a federal institution).

Wladimir fought in the US a few times... i think against Brock and Peter the first time... and against Ibragomov (however you spell it)... Vitali took on Lewis here i think...

But with Euopre as a country.. i agree.. the US is big... but to me, right now British fighters have stepped up and taken on any fighter from any country.. but eastern europeans such as Germans have not... IMO (outside of Arthur Abraham)
