  1. Miguel Cotto made a living doing it. So wtf are you talking about. Not his fault if Manny decides to vacate that belt. That's how the sport goes.

Kell has not been tested at all as the best welters fight in North America. In the land of the blind the One Eyed man is king.

Cotto might be faded but he is far from a steppingstone, i still think he only loses to the elite welters. I think he might even beat the bigger Yuri Foreman at JM.

  11. Errrr. wrong answer sporto. He can only beat who has been put in front of him and he's looked impressive in doing so.

And my opinion of Cotto as an elite fighter isn't particularly high. That said, he didn't make his name winning belts, he made his name beating guys like Mosley and Judah and Clottey.

After 20 fights you'd think he might have seen to it that someone better was put in front of him, yea? You act as if a boxer and his promoter have no say in who the boxer fights. If he was really intent on storming the world he might have stopped fighting bums in his own backyard and matched up against an internationally recognized prospect or gatekeeper.

  14. You must've missed the part about him fighting for the WBO eliminator. Please don't act like he's the first fighter to have not had much stiff competition in his first 20 fights. Does Julio Cesar Chavez ring a bell? How 'bout Carlos Monzon? The fact that he's fighting for an elimator so early on shows that his promoter knows exactly what he is doing.

On the other hand there are thousands and thousands of utterly unheralded and ordinary fighters who fight a bunch of bums and then never go on to do anything whatsoever.

Every time someone points out that this kid hasn't fought anyone that would prove that he's even a B-class fighter, to say nothing of world class, you point to some EXCEPTIONAL case and imply that Brook is in some way their equal. Boxing is full of regional fighters who get beaten when they step up in class. It's NOT full of guys Chavez or Monson. Simple odds are that your boy falls into the former class.

And seriously, fighting a title eliminator at 23, after 20 fights, is not exactly being brought along briskly. It's a pretty average pace, and he hasn't managed to beat anyone even in the top 40 of the welterweight division in the process.
