Pedroza was a wonderful boxer, and nasty (occasionally filthy) infighter. I personally think he would have given his contemporary Salvador Sanchez everything and perhaps more than he could handle in a hypothetical match-up. As it stands, he's well within my ATG Top 10 at featherweight. RIP Alacran. Thanks for the memories.
i watched on tv in the uk or ordered it on video compilation i cannot remember which the rocky lockeridge fights juan laporte/ a black speed merchant american feather in a world title fight i think his name was bernard taylor ? and i attended the mcgugigan fight pedroza was known for his bolo punch and his win at all costs mentality he was thought to be on the decline in the mcguigan fight and in the build up it was seen as a changing of the guard fight and it was the best atmosphere crowd i have ever attended and i have been at much bigger venues. pedroza went out head held high and fought clean in that fight surprised he is dead not much older than myself / to be truthfull never looked him up in all the years he retired / i presume he went back living in panama .
I noticed a lot of boxers die at similar age. It's older than some but still feel it's young. I guess I don't really want to live into my 80's or older really.
One of the greatest featherweights ever. His clinic-like dismantling of Patrick Ford is a favorite of mine.
Oh btw, dont scare the general forum nutriders, but Pedroza would have beaten their hero Loma at 126.
Absolutely brilliant boxer. All he lacked was a punch. For me a better boxer than Sanchez or Nelson, his contemporaries.
