more info from the ring magazine:
    Record: 42-6-1 (25)
    World Titles: Featherweight
    Quality of competition: 7
Bouts vs Top 50 fighters: 1
Why He`s Here: Unparalleled skills and savvy, which he displayed mostly on the road
What He Could Done Better His Ranking: Outboxed Salvador Sanchez in a unification bout.
How good was Pedroza do you feel? How would he do vs the featherweight champs of today?

It's somewhat revealing that the only other top-50 guy he fought (presumably Olivares) was 206 years old when he got him. Pedroza was great, no question though. Sanchez had bigger name sin a shorter span, and he's remembered for that (fairly), but Pedroza's path was longer, less exciting and more...…...I don't know, understated maybe. Still some good scalps there and that many defenses while globetrotting the way he did to his opponents hometown a lot of the time demands respect.

    Filthy b/stard, but great.

Yeah, Pedroza had been champion for a couple of years before he caught the attention of the boxing mainstream; in part due to the fact that he was globe-trotting and in part because with the exception of Olivares, a lot of his early defenses came against guys who were decent but not recognizable to any but the hardcore. In contrast.
Sanchez emerged as a star a lot sooner because he wiped out an exciting and well known Lopez, and followed up with a nationally televised defense against a lauded challenger in Castillo. Different roads to get to a similar point.

Bernard Hopkins looks like a choirboy in comparison.

LaPorte probably felt about the same afterward, I'm sure......
