True, but then so were a lot of the Panamanian stylists of the era at the lower weights. Very smooth, well schooled, poised fighters on the whole. Some simply lacked that X-factor. Luis seemed to have the talent, but probably lacked in certain intangibles.

I wonder who the hell would have some insight on this?

According to boxrec it was an accidental clash of heads.

Finished watching that Saldivar-Luis footage. Yeah, I definitely think the Luis/Pedroza similarities are pretty significant. But I think Pedroza was a notch above. Tougher, nastier, little better head movement while working off the front foot. The only edge I would give Luis is right hand power. Saldivar-Pedroza is a tossup to me. I think Saldivar might have to stop him though. I don't know, great matchup, tough call IMO.

Keep in mind that though already very good, Saldivar was still a bit raw against Luis.I'm sure Eusebio at his 126 peak would have the edge against that Vicente.

A rough equivalent Pedroza was getting knocked out multiple times around the bantam limit and there's little you can take from those fights here either.

Yeah, good point, Saldivar not quite the fighter I saw in the Winstone fights. Still kinda cool watching the Luis fight, given the similarities to Pedroza, and projecting a bit.

I don't take much from Zamora - Pedroza other than the sheer satisfication of seeing him get smoked. Don't get me wrong, I loved Pedroza as a fighter, but he was a dirty *****, lol. Same way with Gomez. Love watching the guy, but they should have kept punch stats for AFTER he knocked guys down. Loved seeing my boy Sanchez smoke him. Anyway, this Saldivar - Pedroza matchup would have been a great fight.

Great fight, but I think Saldivar was just better than Pedroza and would prove too strong and relentless down the stretch. Pedroza would probably be ahead on points at the point when Saldivar takes over. Pedroza probably just barely lasts the distance, but takes a beating in the final few rounds.

Bump. Great match up. Close and competitive fight but I think Saldivar would be able to edge Pedroza similar to that when he fought Ismael Laguna.

Geez, that’s gonna be a tight fight, & a close-run thing. I like the Saldivar-Luis analogy, & am leaning marginally toward Pedroza. Very tough call & I do think Saldivar was greater historically.
