Would Wilfredo Gomez have fared any better. Had he moved up to Challenge WBA Champion Eusebio Pedroza? 15 Rounds.
Wow, good one. I never thought of this one. I'll preface this by saying I haven't looked at film of Pedroza lately, but I always thought he was a great fighter. Gomez was never really the same in the fight after the first round. I don't think Pedroza was the kind of puncher to do this to Gomez. I think Sanchez hit him with a punch he didn't see, and those cause the most damage. Pedroza was a rough, brusing fighter and I think Gomez would've came in with the gameplan to box him (a good thing for Gomez). I think they'd both have their moments, but I remember lesser fighter than Gomez taking Pedroza the distance. I don't think there'd be a stoppage here. I'll say razor close decision to Gomez based on popularity and Pedroza not being rewarded for his borderline tactics.
Pedroza was a very tough customer. & like Sanchez was stronger in the late rounds. I think he could have given Gomez all he could handle in a fifteen round fight. Pedroza might have been able to pull it out down the stretch.
Not much argument here. I can't find a lot of stuff on Pedroza on youtube. I'll have to dig through some old VHS tapes. Gomez never seemed to have his legs completely under him after the first round against Sanchez. I actually think if they fought again it could've been more competitive but same outcome. I definitely think Pedroza - Gomez is a 15 round fight and it doesn't take much arm twisting for me to see it Pedroza's way. I think both fighters would be seeing something completely new. Great matchup.
this is a fight between the two craftiest (dirtiest) fighters of the era. both very good techhnicians, with no fear of mixing it up. a very close fight, with the point that is inevitably taken being the difference either way. the referee will have his hands full trying to keep this one clean.
