    Hi,
Im a southpaw and Ive been working on evading a orthodox left jab and then countering with a right hook. Should I be stepping out after slipping to throw the hook. As well as that I am finding it difficult to slip the punch when he throws a 1-2. Any advice on this or generally avoiding orthodox jab and straight right?
    thanks

if the orthodox throws a jab you can counter with your right hook. To answer your question about stepping out, it just depends on your range and angle you are slipping from. You shouldnt need to step out if you are in range. The slip will give you the angle for the hook.
and if the orthodox throws a 1-2, slip to the other side and counter with a big left hand. It works perfect and should be your best punch as a southpaw. Slip the right hand and bang, left hand is there. You wont need to step out or anything.
Even when the orthodox jabs you can still slip to your left and throw your left hand straight up the middle. If you time it nicely it will work all the time.

As a southpaw there isn't much need to slip the jab, just keep tapping it down with your right and time the right hook when he comes in. A bit of time sparring and you shouldn't have any trouble making the right miss, he'll be firing it from a bit further away so you should easily be able to see it and react. Honestly if you're a beginner you shouldn't even be worrying about slipping punches. If you are slipping a 1-2 then you want to be slipping the right hand and countering with your left, if you're trying to slip the jab you're just putting a target on your head unless you can counter with crazy right uppercuts.
