Evander Holyfield (1996) vs Joe Frazier (1975)

Yeah, this Holyfield was perfect to fight Frazier, he would counter him, muscle him around, even fight a little dirty to block Frazier down.

 

I will take Holyfield in 10 to stop Frazier. This version of Holyfield as tommygun711 said would be perfect to beat Frazier. He would muscle Joe around on the inside score with his combos and begin to break joe down in the mid rounds setting him self up to stop Joe in the late rounds. I feel as though this Holyfield by his style and ring savvy at this point though not in his prime might have been the best Holyfield for alot of H2H matchups. He had learned alot at this point, he would not lose a gameplan at this point in his career like he did in the 1st Bowe fight when he became angry and decided to slug with Bowe and that ring knowledge and HIS experience at this point in his career will carry him to victory in this fight.. Holyfield UD - he times and counters Frazier, even backs him up, when they brawl its quite an even affair but when Holyfield boxes he wins out

 

Holyfield UD. Frazier was basically running on fumes. He willed himself to one last great effort, I think in part because of his searing hatred of Ali. He trained like a madman and wanted to make Ali pay for the taunts. Frazier was an emotional guy. Since Holyfield did zero trash-talking Frazier would not have that added incentive to beat him. It would still be a war though and Frazier would be right there almost the whole way until Holyfield's sharp punches start to damage Frazier's face. Frazier had a very bad eye by 1974. It is amazing he was able to brutalize Quarry and Ellis and give Ali such a great fight given this handicap he had to deal with.

 

I'm going with Holyfield style-wise. I feel the big strong one that handled Tyson is the better one of choice than even the younger one that was more in his physical prime. The last 3-4 rounds are intriguing to me. Joe will smoke if his eyes aren't close and it will be tough to see if Holyfield can keep up. He seemed tired after the end of the 8th or 9th round I think, then somehow came back on. I feel Frazier has a chance to close the show because of this, but I'm still thinking Evander decisions him. No hesitation if it were a 12 rounder.

 

Prime for prime this would be a fight I'd love to see. Two similar skill-sets and similar styles going to war. Pick 'em.

 

Frazier can do this too, you know.

 

I'm going with Evander by a decision, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if he stopped Joe late...in a great fight!

Holyfield would muscle Frazier around early but he really didn't have the stamina and punching power to discourage Joe for 15 rounds, especially at this stage of his career. Ali poured volumes of accurate jabs and combinations on Smoking Joe and still was never able to hold him off. This would probably look like Quarry/Frazier I but Evander holds his own for more rounds and sees the final bell, ultimately losing a decision and taking a bad beating to his body the last half of the fight. Tyson was looking for a way out of the Holyfield fight after the first few rounds, this is when Frazier would just now start to warm up, clinches didn't bother him, and he didn't neglect the body.

 

I think Frazier might take him late. Holy's stamina was pretty shaky at this stage of his career, and Frazier was always more skilled on the inside than Tyson was, and more consistent/persistent in his attack.
