Once Lewis signed with Steward Bowe`s career stated going downhill, I feel Lewis wwas a better fighter at that stage.

Tucker was finished by the time Bowe was champ, he was nowhere near the level he was at in `87, his fight against Lewis was really poor.

I just can't see Tyson getting past the jab. The uppercut would murder him imo.

Lewis became a great fighter with Steward, whereas I felt he was very one dimensional (with an especially **** poor jab imo) before then.

And I semi-agree, Lewis post-Steward would have been a terrific match for Bowe. Lewis became the whole, ATG fighter he had the potential to be.

It amazes me Futch didn't find it in either him or Bowe to push him MUCH harder. Futch is a great trainer.

You probably already know that the Pros are a different story. Look at Howard Davis Jr, Tyrell Biggs....you can probably name at least a dozen yourself, my friend.

Bowe has recently admitted he just did whatever his promoters told him to, on a side note, all three boxers here were wooden as hell!

Bowe as a Pro was like night and day in terms of quality when compared to him as an amateur imo, Mark.

I think this is something you know about as well.

I respectfully have to disagree. Tyson didn't have the heart of any of the top ten heavyweights, he never once rallied back from a knockdown to win (for instance). When Tyson got knocked down the fight was basically over.

Watch Holmes-Witherspoon 1 (or geez, Holmes-Snipes, Shavers II, Weaver 1...on a differnet tack, Foreman/Lyle). Larry was out in the ninth round, for a few seconds it looked like he was looking for a place to fall. He fought his heart out to get back in the fight, and he did.

I do have Tyson in my top fifteen ATGs though, mostly because there never was a more ferocious fighter than Mike Tyson before 1989. He was a terrible (in the good way) force of nature that hadn't happened that intensely before or since. I wonder if all that youthful intensity is what made him so burnt out in a relatively short time.

I do agree here. Frank would have made Holy's job easier. That said, Frank had the kind of firepower to knock Holy down...I just can't see that happening in my mind. They'd have to stop the fight with Bruno half-senseless by round nine.
