Evander Holyfield "Foreman Hit Me Harder Then Anyone"

Were any of you guys fighters? The reason I ask is for any of us who have taken punches from greater and lesser hitters this isn't hard to understand. The hardest puncher I faced almost broke my skull in two (thats how it felt), but I wasn't really hurt because he hit my on my forehead, while a lesser puncher put me down and had me feeling ill from my toes to the top of my head as he laid one right on the button.

 

Have you experienced a knock down before? It's not necessarily the hardest ones that do the most damage.

 

This is true. Some people think a guy just walks into the ring and inflicts power with his punching when in fact there are so many variables regarding placement, momentum of the hitter and "hitee" and the level of fatigue of the "hitee"... among many others. It's not just a matter of fighter A inflicting X-amount of power with regularity.

Boxing is a very fluid activity... Factors like reach and power and accuracy are not as easily reducible as the neophyte would believe. It is not an activity that can be broken down into static parts.

 

Good point ... I have had this debate with many here regarding the power of Ron Lyle v.s. why he did not KO many of his top opponents ... it did not take away from his power which was exceptional but his overall skill as a fighter ..

 

Well, it's a case of there always being someone (or someones) on this forum that knows better than the fighters in question.
The postors here at ESB decide who hit who harder, and the fighters should know their place and keep their mouths shut !

 

Sounds nice but not true. By that logic Foreman would have to say Ali hit him the hardest but we all know he faced much heavier hitters.

 

Yeah. I'd be very surprised if Foreman said that Ali was the hardest puncher he fought.

Michael Nunn probably KO'd Sumbu Kalambay with the hardest shot that he had ever received, but Nunn was hardly the hardest puncher he ever faced..

 

No, but I've scored a few knockdowns..but that's beside the point..you have to be a professional fighter to discern the severity of a knockdown? Don't try that ****..it's like saying that you can't comment on war unless you've served. Yes, I know that a knockdown isn't always from the hardest of punches, that there are flash kds whn a guy is just surprised and off balance...but Holyfield was KO'ED by that shot from Bowe...all the previously listed excuses aside.

Not an appropriate analogy at all...every knowledgeable fight fan would concede that the ko of Foreman was attributable to exhaustion and frustration as much as any punch Ali threw...I used an example where POWER was the sole arbiter and unless you just feel like arguing then you have to understand this.

 

The guys actually in the ring fighting are the guys I am least likely to believe.

Their objectivity is compromised and their opinions inherently tarnished and biased.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, but don't rely on it.

 

I think there really are boxers who's punches are very heavy and hits you like a ton of bricks, and you can feel the power all throughout your body when you get hit, even if you're covering up.

Foreman may be that kind of guy.

But some of the best KO punchers dont always have the heaviest hands.

A lot of them KO people through timing, accuracy, combination punching, well timed aggression and they have a great snap in their punches.

Not clubbing, single, heavy punches from big hitters.
