You suckers... Holyfield is such a fighter that there are no words to describe it. Oh, and I almost forgot, take it once again Mike!
Obviously he has to be a P4P all time great and HOF material cause this is a guy who was conceived and trained to absolutely dominate a Jr Heavyweight Division and let's not forget, he won a 15 round war with the guy who only lost to Michael Spinks at 175 pounds frr the WBC-WBA LHWT unification and trashed Matthew Saad Muhammad twice and in Philly. Evander Knocked Qawi out in four rounds in the rematch!!! And don't come with roids and juicing small talk cause that s**ks, Holyfield continued to hit hard, sharp and relentlessly against James Tillis, Pinklon Thomas, Mike Dokes, Adilson Rodrigues, Alex Steward, Seamus McDonagh and won the Undisputed title from Buster Douglas in THREE rounds in the Mirage!!! The first HWT to travel the distance with him outweighted him by 40 to 50 pounds and if you watch the fight, it took an iron chin and a warriors heart to take the sharp, devastating combos that Holyfield kept on unleashing on George Foreman, travelling in circles around him and on his toes. Bert Cooper was almost a disaster but Holyfield absolutely went beyond the barrier of resistance so many were the left hooks and right uppercuts Cooper took in Atlanta, Nov 1991 and as a late substitute for Tyson who also didn't show up for March 1992 and then was accused, judged and convicted in Indiana... Even after losing the undisputed HWT title in a stoic effort against Riddick Bowe, regained a portion of the Championship from him, lost to the first southpaw HWT Champion in History in Double M, Michael Moorer, was TKayoed for the first time in the rubber match against the same Big Daddy Bowe for the WBO title in 95 but still and for the irony of destiny, Tkayoed Tyson in style in 1996 after Tyson, coming out of a three years sentence, had stopped Bruno in their rematch in 3 and Seldon in 1 and in a fight people were afraid for Holy's life!!! Tyson found a way to get out of their rematch and Holyfield still rumbled for the unification of the titles after avenging his loss to Double M twice with Lennox Lewis in close decisions. The man became a 4 time World HWT Champion and keeps on fighting to win some and lose some... He is a living legend. Period.
A few Holyfield stats - He has faced more than 20 world champions, second only to De La Hoya who was able to fight over many more weight divisions - He has beaten more lineal HW champions than anyone - On average he was 16.5lbs lighter than his opponents at heavyweight - He has 11 kids (that I know of), all of them have names beginning with the letter E Holy a G
The PED issue raises question marks about his p4p greatness, and his achievements at heavyweight would have been more impressive had they not been chemically assisted. He was the bigger man in the ring when he lost to Moorer and Byrd, and the Bowe, Lewis and Foreman fights give a slightly misleading impression of just how "small" a heavyweight he was. His head was like a third fist by the latter stages of his career, but if you restrict the HOF to 100% clean fighters it would be a pretty bare place. Obviously the greatest cruiserweight of all time, one of the best heavyweights of the era, and a first ballot Hall of Famer. However, I don't see him as a top 30-40 ATG p4p.
