These two were supposed to get it on in 98, but huggin Henry pulled out at the last min. It woulda been a terrible fight even back then.

I don't want to see a fight like this happen, but it wouldn't surprise me (in spite of Akinwande's inactivity). Considering Holyfield's recent financial troubles and his inability to fight at the top level anymore, Holyfield's best chance at making considerable money is to fight well-known fighters from the 1990s. Fights with Botha, Akinwande, McCall, etc. aren't appealing to us, but they are quite appealing to casual boxing fans whose main source of exposure to boxing is through mainstream media channels.

BTW, didn't Akinwande pull out of his 98' bout with Holyfield due to some sort of medical condition?

Yea was looking forward to the fight in 98, but Akinwande tested positive for Hepititis B i think, may hav been C lol.

Holyfield better stay busy, or he'll get smothered by the mauling bear lol.

This could be one of the worse match ups in years. Holyfield has a low workrate now and Akinwande loves to wrestle. This could make the Holyfield-Ruiz trilogy look more like the Holyfield-Bowe one. I'm glad Holyfield is sticking to guys his age now but an Akinwande match would have stunk in the late 90s let alone now. Even fights with other old guys like Maskaev, Rahman, Golota, McCall, Moorer, etc would be better than this.

The idea of this fight stinks, but I'd rather see Holy fight fellow old timers than get destroyed by one of the champions. It's safer, he can defend his meaningless heavyweight title and gets enough money to keep him going.

will be foul fest. headbutting, holding. hopefully arthur mercante jr. will ref this since he wants to be in the spotlight so much. the ref would play a huge role in this fight.
