Holyfield was the one thought to be washed up when the first fight went down. Against Czyz and Bowe III, Holyfield looked to be nearing the end of his rope. Meanwhile, Tyson looked phenominal in the Bruno rematch. That image of Tyson struttng away from the slumping Bruno, arms outstretched, most of us at the time did think he was back to stay.
Agreed. I can remember wanting Evander to win, but feared for his health when it was announced that he and Tyson were meeting. Most people I knew favored Tyson as well. Those who claim that Mike should have been the underdog are uninformed.
I also remember the fear for Holy's well being at the time. The question was not as much if he would lose, but if he would be seriously hurt as well. Fast forward and it's all of a sudden Tyson that was washed up. Funny to see how things are changed after the fact.
Agreed, Both men should have been viewed as being past their primes then, and the same should hold true now even in hindsight. Neither one should be seen as having had a significant advantage over the other in vitality.
Holyfield is the only opponent who would always frustrate Tyson at any stage of his career. He is probably the only guy who showed Tyson that his power and speed were not enough to beat him. Plus they have a history to where Evander always had the better of him, I bet that played on Tyson too which resulted in him losing confidence in his battles against him very early
Guess you must be this guy as well?.....,. http://www.***********.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-473401.html
I cannot read Swag's full post, only the thread title because Swag is on my ignore list. I assume he is asking about prime v. prime Prime for Prime, Tyson by late stoppage. He's too fast, powerful and defensively capable. Holyfield wouldn't be able to hold him off. I eargerly await the low key, objective response by Wass1985.
Biased anĂ¡lisis my friend.evander was even 4 years older than mike , he had problems of heart and you talk like if this fight was prime holyfield vs past prime mike.tyson in 1996 destroyed bruno in brutal fashion and he could not do anything against evander
Too powerful???? Holyfield ate Tyson's best shots and came back for dessert... I already owned you and your hero on the fights that didn't happen thread.
And Tyson at 28 wasn't facing a prime Holyfield who was 34. It's a different dynamic. Prime Holyfield is probably the fittest HW boxer ever with great fundamentals, speed, combinations and workrate. However he wouldn't be as strong as the older Holyfield. I think Holyfield could have always won but it depends if he picks the best fightplan, which he didn't always do. If he's cautious though he should win.
OK let's not pretend Holyfield was the only one juicing. Tyson had Chad Nichols on his team and says the one thing he'd have done differently in his boxing career is that he'd have taken growth hormone
