It may seem like the winner is obvious but consider these variables....Sharkey was actually a pretty good boxer who was slick and elusive. He also would be the 2nd best opponent at cruiser that Holyfield fought after Qawi, although you could make an argument that prime Sharkey >>>> Qawi. How would 187-190 pound Holyfield do vs prime Jack Sharkey?

Holyfield could weigh 177 pounds like he did in his early career and still beats sharkey

It would be an interesting fight. Sharkey would be a bigger man here with reach disadvantage. His head movement would definitely confuse Evander and his jab was quite heavy. Sharkey would not stand in front of Holyfield and I doubt this version of Holy was good and strong enough to stop Sharkey. It would be a close decision, I'm slightly for Holy due to his often inefficient pressure and higher workrate. Peak Sharkey could outbox him though.

I think Sharkey's experience would play a significant factor. At heavyweight Holyfield would beat him up so here I'll see it 50/50. Maybe a small edge to Sharkey based upon experience but if Holyfield out worked and outfought him I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Holyfield wins this figut dominantly, any way he wants to.

His footwork is in a different universe to Sharkey's, he could keep Sharkey off balance and in a position where he can't throw back, effortlessly.

Sharkey's footwork is honestly awful, and his balance is barely passable.

    Don't believe me?

Watch how often his lead leg is thrown in the air against "Barroom Brawler" Schmelling.

    Nope.

Just an opinion that you don't agree with.

No, calling Sharkey's footwork awful and his balance "barely passable" is trolling attempt. Sharkey was excellent boxer.

I should've clarified, and said by modern championship standards.

Outside of that I stand by everything I said.

Standards didn't change much from 1930s. Sharkey was inconsistent, but he was phenomenal fighter.

I disagree wholeheartedly on your first statement.
If you'd had said they haven't gotten any better since the 60s/70s I'd probably agree.

Sharkey was a very good fighter, I'm just pointing out what I think are the reasons he would lose.

His footwork is not on the level of any current champion I can think of off the top of my head.

His balance is not great, I posted that fight to illustrate that.
    Watch it you'll see.

What makes you believe that boxing improved in 1960s? Boxing reached its peak of popularity in 1920s and 1930s. Many of the best fighters ever were from that period.
I can help you then: Ingemar Johannson, George Foreman (arguably), Leon Spinks, Riddick Bowe, Vitali Klitchsko, Deontay Wilder to name a few.
You mean the fight that I broke down round after round just a week ago?

I genuinely believe there is little between Sharkey and Wilders footwork.
