Evander Holyfield vs Jack Sharkey @ cruiser

I could never beat Holyfield, but I'd kill Sharkey.

 

Come on, we all know that you'd destroy Holyfield

 

Well, Risko was just a tough mutha****er who'd fight anyone and was the dangerman of the division for like 5 years. He beat about 30 brilliant light-heavies too, so I have to rate him.

Wiggins is just ****ing nuts. One of those Mayorga-esque guys who was just always in trouble. Some of his stories are really funny.

 

When you read my post, I didn't even support Sharkey in this matchup but people are trashing him recently for no reason. Sharkey was a very good boxer who outboxed Dempsey, beat Wills and fought only top 10 contenders for 60% of his career. He was limited by his inconsistency and lack of powerful punch, but he was a nightmare to face because he could make anyone look like a fool. He was very athletic and strong physically. He had very solid jab, excellent head movement and was very fast for his size. He could fight from outside as well as pressure bigger opponents. He beat all styles and ducked nobody.

CW Holyfield might be a bit too good for him, but motivated Sharkey would certainly put up good fight.

 

I think he gets trashed by some, because he is praised too much by others.

I am for sure guilty of that.

He's not praised that much though. Usually a few posters start to defend him every time someone says he's mediocre. Nobody implies he's as good as Holyfield, but he was very good fighter that wouldn't be easy to beat for inexperienced Evander.

 

Erm, well he has a lot of run ins with the police. I seem to remember him absolutely sparking out an officer, then turning to the other officers, saying: "what'd you expect? It's my job..." or something like that. I'll try and find it for you.

That's definitely not my experience on this forum, in fact its been the reverse.

This thread is literally implying that.

 

In last month there was a long conversation about Sharkey being worse than a guy who was an amateur as a child and now sparr with his friends. There was a conversation of him being one of the worst lineal HW champions ever.

What thread have you seen that overrated Sharkey?

Lesser fighters could beat better ones.

This thread asks if CW Holyfield was good enough to beat prime Jack Sharkey, who had a lot more experience than him. Asking who would have won here doesn't imply that Sharkey was as good as Holyfield.

This guy sounded like a ****ing legend all the way up until someone mentioning he was a nonce.

Now I feel dirty for liking him for a hot minute.

 

Yeah, I thought that at first. But I've seen on a different website that it's not actually true. Although both opinion mean about as much as eachother, I tend to give most people the benefit of the doubt.

 

I think that Evander was actually at his best at Cruiserweight. I think he batters Sharkey all over the ring, and, stops him mid rounds.

 

There are more than 10 worse than him.
