Holyfield had an extensive career at cruiserweight. You did not have to be over 200lbs, or have beaten men over 200lbs, to be able to give him a competitive fight.
Here is the problem with what you are saying. You are not just arguing that one era was superior to another (a general statement). You are arguing that one era was so much better than another, that accomplishments in the latter era are meaningless (a very specific statement). The first position would carry a fairly light burden of proof, but the second position would carry a very heavy burden of proof.
"Here is the problem with what you are saying". Jesus... I'll tell you what the problem is: you acting arrogant and condescending. Again! Like you always do! But I guess, that's how you get your kicks... taking what you must know is a ludicrous stance and then defending it, with what you obviousy think are very clever posts, meant to impress us. But you're not really fooling anybody! As for the Corbett vs Holyfield fantasy match-up... I refuse to believe, that you honestly think an elite fighter from the 1890s can be compared to an elite fighter from Holyfield's time. I know, you're not stupid, and that you know your history... so when you pretend, there isn't a HUGE difference between the two eras, you're being very disingenuous. You know, just like when you say something crazy like Tommy Burns would beat Deontay Wilder! Do you really not see, how ridiculous that is?
I am sorry if my style of writing comes across as being arrogant and condescending, but certain things have to be said. The burden of proof lies with the person who is asserting something. You are making a very specific assertions, about how two fighters a century apart compare, and you are not offering any evidence to back them. up. It is OK to suggest that fighters have improved, but when you claim to know by how much, that carries a heavy burden of proof. It is hard to see how else I can be more delicate in the matter.
Holyfield lost 2 fight before he was 37 years old to Bowe and Moorerat 37 he lost to Lewis at 38 to Ruiz, all his other defeats came when he was past 40 years old. Corbett's record is 11-4-3. QUOTE="janitor, post: 20893499, member: 3871"]He was the undisputed heavyweight champion, so I would have to say yes.[/QUOTE] Name them! Name these "elite" men he beat?
