It is totally wrong because I never said he was slow. The few guys he outspeeded like old Foreman, fat Douglas, and Bert Cooper were the slow ones. I find it absurd to suggest Holyfield was faster than Joe Louis, Mike Tyson, and Moorer, or that Round 8 combo you highlighted from a tired middle aged Holyfield was faster than anything Moorer threw in his career, but I'm not going to call you names. Speed in boxing can be hard to judge sometimes, there's lots of variance within individual punches and over the course of the fight. Evander always had better stamina than most of his opponents and tended to slow down less, usually becoming quicker than them as the fight progressed. But my conclusion is drawn from Evander's early round struggles against opponents noted for their fast hands. He can't beat these guys to the punch so he has to wait and time them, fight more patiently. Against slower opponents, Evander boxes very differently. He dances more, hits and runs, leads the exchanges...basically how you would expect a fighter to box with the speed advantage. Fat Douglas is how Evander would prefer to box a slower giant. He clearly tried this against Bowe in the first fight but was getting tagged too much, and had to brawl instead. Thank you for reading my posts regardless, it's been fun.
Holyfield seems to be judged almost strictly on his merits after he was 30 yrs old. Douglas fight does. not. count! How about this then.. 37 yr old Louis that fought Marciano vs. 37 yr old Holyfield that fought Lewis
I'd DQ Holyfield from boxing based on what he has in common with Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds
What decade does this take place in? Does Louis get the advantages Holyfield has from nutrition, training, possibly "supplements"? In any case, i think Holyfield drops Louis early, then Louis stops Holyfield late in the fight.
